Exploring Twitch’s New Discovery Feed
In a recent Patch Notes Livestream, Jessica Sung, Product Manager at Twitch, unveiled an innovative addition to the Twitch mobile app—a Discovery feed. This new feature, set to launch later in the month, promises to enhance the way users interact with content and discover new streamers.
The Discovery feed is designed to be a scrollable interface, allowing users to effortlessly toggle between live streams and video clips. This dynamic approach not only caters to the preferences of existing Twitch users but also opens up opportunities for streamers to expand their audience reach.
Within the ‘Live’ section of the feed, viewers will be presented with an array of live streams. This includes content from their followed streamers as well as recommendations tailored to their viewing history. The innovative design eliminates the need for pre-roll ads, enabling users to dive straight into content that resonates with their interests.
Ads will be integrated into the feed in a non-intrusive manner, maintaining a low frequency to ensure a seamless viewing experience. These ads are scrollable, meaning they won’t interrupt the flow of content discovery.
For those who stumble upon a stream that captures their attention, a simple tap on the streamer’s avatar transports them into theater mode. Here, they can engage with the community through chat and easily follow the streamer for future sessions.
The Clips feed is another facet of this feature, perfect for users looking to consume quick, engaging content. It showcases a curated selection of clips from both followed streamers and others that might pique the viewer’s interest. Each clip provides contextual information, such as whether the streamer is currently live, and offers interactive options like liking, disliking, and sharing. A convenient ‘Follow’ button also allows users to connect with streamers for their next live event.
Some users have already had a glimpse of the Discovery feed as part of an experimental rollout. With the full launch imminent, Twitch enthusiasts are encouraged to update their app to the latest version to experience this new way of content exploration.
