Google stuffs Gemini into Android Studio Panda 2 to build apps from prompts

Google has released Android Studio Panda 2, featuring an AI agent that generates applications and an AI-enhanced version upgrade assistant. This version is based on JetBrains IntelliJ IDEA's community edition. The AI capabilities are powered by Gemini, Google's large language models, with a free tier offering a lightweight version of Gemini 2.5 Pro. Developers can create prototypes with a single prompt, and the AI agent automates project planning, code generation, error analysis, and self-correction. Users must sign into Gemini and enable AI integration, with data collection practices in place. A demonstration showed the AI generating a bridge deal analyzer, which functioned but had inaccuracies in the generated code. Android Studio also experienced performance issues and deprecated certain features, including the Custom View preview and 3D mode in the layout inspector.

Capcom Confirms That PC Makes Up Roughly Half of its Total Game Sales

PCs under $500 to “disappear by 2028” predicts analyst. Apparently water’s wet, too.

Gartner predicts that the sub-0 entry-level PC segment will disappear by 2028 due to a 130% increase in memory and SSD costs, contributing to a 17% rise in PC prices by 2025. This situation is expected to result in a 10.4% decline in PC shipments this year, the first contraction in over a decade. Consumers are anticipated to keep their devices longer, with business users holding onto PCs for 15% longer and consumers for 20% longer by the end of 2026. The report indicates that elevated RAM and SSD prices will persist longer than expected, influenced by broader inflation trends. Additionally, the anticipated 50% market penetration of AI PCs is now expected to be delayed until 2028.

Blender iPad App Development Halted as Android Tablets Get Priority

Blender's initiative to develop a native iPad version of its 3D creation suite is currently on hold, as confirmed by the development team. The project, initially announced in July, aimed to create a multitouch interface for the iPad Pro with Apple Pencil support, but no release date was provided. A status update in January indicated that the iPad development is paused until further notice, with the team now focusing on Android tablets. Despite this, a live tech demonstration of the software running on an iPad was showcased at the SIGGRAPH conference, suggesting the project may not be entirely abandoned. The latest build optimized for Apple silicon Macs is available for free download on the Blender website.

The demo has some imperfections, such as camera glitches and a lack of enemy variety, but shows promise for future development.

Free PC Game Offering Is a Cozy Animal Crossing Competitor

The ongoing Steam Next Fest runs until 2 March and features a variety of game demos. One highlighted game is Collector’s Cove, a free demo developed by VoodooDuck, where players manage a floating farm aboard a ship, exploring islands and gathering crops and fish. The demo allows players to grow crops, fish, craft items, and personalize their ship, with the goal of becoming a Named-Collector. Progress made in the demo will carry over to the full game, which includes access to the first seven in-game days. Collector’s Cove is compatible with the Steam Deck. Other demos featured in the event include Romestead, The Witch’s Bakery, and Witchspire.
