Cockroaches using apps that send messages without internet? Here is tech behind it

Delhi police are investigating the methods used by protesters in Central Delhi, particularly those associated with the Cockroach Janta Party (CJP), who are using specialized offline messaging applications to communicate despite internet restrictions and mobile network shutdowns. These apps utilize Bluetooth technology to create local networks, allowing communication without 4G, 5G, or Wi-Fi. One example is Bitchat, an app that enables message exchange via Bluetooth without the need for accounts or central servers. The messages are relayed between devices to form a mesh network, which is effective during internet shutdowns. The police are reaching out to app service providers for user information and are employing various investigative methods, including analyzing internet protocol device records and using facial recognition technology. This use of offline messaging apps has been observed in protests globally and during natural disasters.

Microsoft’s Snapdragon X2 Surface Laptop 8 and Pro 12 for Business are now available

The Surface Laptop 8 can be configured with Snapdragon X2 Plus or X2 Elite, while the Surface Pro 12 features the Snapdragon X2 chip. Both devices also offer an Intel model. The Surface Laptop 8 includes haptic feedback capabilities, enhancing user interaction, and the Surface Pro 12 provides improved graphics performance over its predecessor. Key features for business users include pre-installed Windows 11 Pro or Enterprise, an integrated Privacy Screen option, Advanced Exchange Warranty service, Device Firmware Configuration Interface (DFCI) cloud management, Windows Autopilot tenant pre-registration, access to the cloud-based Surface Management Portal, native corporate domain onboarding pathways, and availability of Intel models. The Snapdragon X2-powered Surface Pro 12 does not support 5G connectivity. Anyone can purchase a Surface for Business device without needing to own a business.

Motorola launches Global Connect eSIM app

Motorola has launched the Global Connect Android application, developed with Gigs, available in the Google Play Store in Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Peru, and Chile, with plans to expand to European markets later this year. Android Spyware Asin Targets Arabic Users via Fake News, PDF and War Map Apps

Arabic-speaking users are the target of a new Android spyware called Asin, identified by ESET in early 2025. The malware is distributed through fraudulent websites that mimic legitimate services, including: - govlens[.]net, registered on May 27, 2025, impersonating a government news source. - pdf-reader[.]help, registered on May 29, 2025, claiming to be a secure PDF editor. - live-war-map[.]com, registered on January 20, 2025, providing updates on military incidents. Two of these domains are promoted via social media accounts on Facebook and Telegram. The spyware combines legitimate functionality with covert capabilities, and its campaigns may target journalists and OSINT researchers in Arabic-speaking regions. Artifacts linked to Asin include an upload to VirusTotal from Türkiye in October 2025, an APK downloaded from c-pdf[.]net in December 2025, and a sample disguised as "Syria Defense Map" detected in January 2026. Users must manually install the applications and grant permissions for the spyware to operate.

Microsoft’s Project Solara is an Android OS designed for agents instead of apps

Microsoft is developing two concept devices under Project Solara: the Desk Concept and the Badge Concept. The Desk Concept resembles a smart display with a touchscreen, microphones, and a camera, functioning as a secondary monitor or standalone Windows PC powered by Windows 365 cloud computing. The Badge Concept is a work badge with a touchscreen, 5G connectivity, a camera, microphones, and a fingerprint scanner, allowing users to interact with AI agents. Both devices are not yet available for purchase, and Microsoft plans to demonstrate them in collaboration with partners like AccuWeather, Best Buy, CVS Health, Levi’s, and Target.
