The Swapper is a sci-fi puzzle game originally launched in 2013 that involves cloning mechanics and explores themes of personal identity, presented in a unique Claymation art style. Recently, Facepalm Games released significant updates for the beta version of The Swapper on Steam, the first in over a decade, aimed at addressing bit rot and enhancing the game with visual, aural, and input adjustments. The updates include light dithering, improved depth of field, updated textures, and bump-map anti-aliasing for better visuals, as well as natural sound panning and louder text blips for improved audio. Bring your PWA closer to users with App Actions on Windows

App Actions on Windows have expanded to include Progressive Web Apps (PWAs) starting from Edge version 137. Developers can now publish their PWAs to the Microsoft Store, allowing for enhanced user interactions. App Actions enable users to access key features of an app directly from their current context, reducing distractions from switching between applications. For example, the note-taking app Goodnotes allows users to send text directly to the app without toggling windows. Developers can integrate App Actions into their Microsoft Store PWAs by defining an Action manifest, setting up a custom protocol handler, configuring the app as a share target, and packaging the app for the Microsoft Store using PWABuilder. Optionally, developers can define a PWA launch handler and test actions using the App Actions Testing Playground.

Devious new ClickFix malware variant targets macOS, Android, and iOS using browser-based redirections

ClickFix attacks have evolved from targeting Windows systems to also affecting macOS, iOS, and Android devices. The new version starts with a compromised website where cybercriminals inject JavaScript code that redirects users to a fake URL shortener. This action leads to a download page serving malware. On macOS, the attack executes a malicious shell script via a terminal command, while on Android and iOS, it can occur without user interaction, allowing malware to be downloaded simply by visiting the compromised site. The malware is packaged in a .TAR archive and has been flagged by multiple antivirus programs.

Stellar Blade demo for PC now available

Sony Interactive Entertainment, in collaboration with SHIFT UP, has released a demo for the PC version of Stellar Blade on Steam. Players control EVE, a warrior from the 7th Airborne Squad, on a mission to reclaim Earth from the Naytiba. The demo features fast-paced combat, allowing players to perform attack combos and carry over save data to the full game. EVE faces powerful creatures in a post-apocalyptic world filled with mysteries. Police takes down AVCheck antivirus site used by cybercriminals

Dutch police takes Counter Antivirus service AVCheck offline

The Dutch Team High Tech Crime, in collaboration with international partners, has dismantled the counter-antivirus service AVCheck, which was used by cybercriminals to make malware undetectable. AVCheck was one of the largest services of its kind, allowing malware developers to test their software against antivirus programs. The operation involved cooperation from the Netherlands, the United States, and Finland, and was executed by the High Tech Crime Team under the National Public Prosecutor’s Office. The investigation not only shut down AVCheck but also gathered evidence against its administrators and users, including those of related services like Cryptor.biz and Crypt.guru. Additionally, a fake login page was launched to deter AVCheck users, and collaborations with antivirus organizations were established as part of Project Melissa. This action is connected to Operation Endgame, which previously targeted other malware services.
