Google is quietly making email verification less annoying in Chrome on Android

Chrome 154 introduces Email Verification support for Android, allowing users to confirm their email addresses directly through the browser. This feature eliminates the need for traditional verification emails or one-time codes if both the website and email provider support Google's verification protocol. Users can find the Verified Email section under Settings > Addresses and more to toggle the “Automatically confirm your emails” option. To function, users must be signed into their email provider within the browser, and both the email provider and website must support the protocol. Google is also refining verification codes in Gmail with a “Copy code” shortcut for two-factor authentication emails.

Microsoft might bring Windows XP’s 3D Pinball to Windows 11, as Windows boss puts it on the list

Microsoft's Windows chief, Pavan Davuluri, acknowledged a fan's request for the return of 3D Pinball during the Inside Windows podcast. While he noted that 3D Pinball is part of a "matrix for things to think about," he clarified that no team is currently working on reviving the game, nor is it planned for Windows 11. The absence of 3D Pinball is attributed to technical challenges during the transition to 64-bit Windows. The nostalgia for classic Windows games has been highlighted, with a desire to incorporate more engaging features into Windows 11. Microsoft has an upcoming event on October 7, which may present an opportunity for surprises, though there is no indication that 3D Pinball will be featured.

This Google Play Store alternative is my first stop for Android apps now – here’s why

F-Droid, an alternative app store for Android, has undergone a significant transformation with a new user-friendly interface designed to enhance usability and accessibility. It operates independently of Google, offering only free and open-source software (FOSS) applications, allowing users to inspect and modify the code. Each app is vetted for security issues before being added to the repository, although the vetting process is not exhaustive. The new interface, developed using Kotlin Compose and aligned with Android Material Design principles, features a streamlined layout with three main sections: Discover, Search, and My Apps. The category system has been improved, and the search functionality now allows users to search by app titles, descriptions, and categories. Installation and updating processes have been refined to provide a seamless experience similar to that of the Google Play Store. These changes come at a time when Google has modified its sideloading process, potentially raising concerns about alternative app sources.

Mike Tomlin’s 12-year-long Minecraft hobby is being questioned: “You don’t see Andy Reid doing that”

Mike Tomlin has spent 12 years building a detailed virtual city in Minecraft, initially as a way to bond with his children. His city features hotels, apartments, sports venues, and an aquarium, serving as a therapeutic escape from coaching pressures. Tomlin's project developed between 2014 and 2025, coinciding with the Steelers' struggles in the NFL Playoffs despite having talented rosters. Criticism arose from fans and former player Le'Veon Bell, who questioned Tomlin's dedication to the team. The city includes a large body of water, a boutique hotel with an executive spa, glass ceilings for natural light, an aquarium-themed apartment high-rise, a CVS, and various sports facilities. Despite his commitment to this project, Tomlin led the Steelers to a Super Bowl victory in 2009 and has maintained competitiveness in his coaching career.

Android could soon let you trigger Emergency SOS without touching your phone at all

Google is developing a hands-free Emergency SOS trigger for Android devices, allowing users to activate the feature by saying "Help" three times. This voice-activated option is still under development and is not yet available to the public. The feature may include auditory confirmations and could extend to various supported Android models, excluding Samsung devices. An animation found in the code illustrates the activation process, which includes location checks, emergency video recording, and emergency calling. Concerns have been raised about the necessity of auditory confirmation before activation, as it may hinder effectiveness in critical situations.
