Samsung is preparing to launch One UI 9, based on Android 17, which will include a hidden app called ‘Warranty & Care.’ This app, accessible through an activity launcher, will serve as a hub for device support and will allow users to check warranty status, access self-diagnostic tools, and view help guides. It will also provide insights into repair history, repair cost estimates, service center reservations, and real-time updates on repair status. Additionally, an AI-powered chatbot for remote assistance is being developed, though it is uncertain if it will launch with One UI 9. Connecting an Android phone to a car's dashboard via Android Auto allows users to enhance their driving experience by creating Assistant shortcuts directly on the app screen. These shortcuts can be assigned to various commands that work with Google Assistant, such as getting directions home, accessing Spotify playlists, opening a garage door, turning off home lights, and having text messages read aloud. To create a shortcut, users can navigate to the Android Auto launcher options in the Settings menu, select Customize Launcher, and then tap Add a shortcut to the Launcher > An Assistant action. Users can input their desired command, assign it a name, and test it while connected to Android Auto. Shortcuts can be rearranged, modified, or deleted without affecting the standard voice command functionality. Users are encouraged to choose practical commands for shortcuts and can chain multiple instructions together for convenience.

Cybersecurity researchers have identified a new Android malware named PromptSpy that utilizes Google's Gemini AI chatbot to enhance its capabilities and persistence on infected devices. PromptSpy can capture lockscreen data, obstruct uninstallation, gather device information, take screenshots, and record screen activity. It integrates Gemini to analyze the current screen and provide instructions to keep the malware active in the recent apps list. The malware uses a hard-coded AI model and communicates with a command-and-control server via the VNC protocol, allowing remote access to the victim's device. It is financially motivated, targeting users in Argentina, and was developed in a Chinese-speaking environment. PromptSpy is distributed through a dedicated website and is considered an advanced version of a previously unidentified malware called VNCSpy.

Copilot is a prominent AI tool that users find overwhelming and intrusive, leading to a desire for a more streamlined experience. Hayden Barnes has developed a third-party tool that enhances GitHub Copilot's capabilities, allowing it to recognize Docker instances, interact with Windows Subsystem for Linux, and summarize text from images in File Explorer. This tool is designed to be an unobtrusive AI assistant on Windows 11 PCs, remaining discreet when not in use. The traditional Copilot app can be visually distracting, while Barnes' GitHub Copilot Taskbar GUI offers a minimalist interface that integrates seamlessly with the operating system. The tool is available for download on GitHub.

Google is enhancing Gemini AI on Android to enable it to control apps directly, allowing it to perform tasks within applications rather than just responding to inquiries. This includes capabilities such as opening apps, performing in-app actions, navigating interfaces, and completing tasks using natural language commands. If implemented, this feature could significantly transform the Android user experience by facilitating faster multitasking, reducing screen interaction, and providing smarter automation. Privacy measures will include strict permission-based access and on-device processing for sensitive tasks. The feature may launch in a future Android 16 update or alongside upcoming Pixel feature drops, likely starting with Pixel devices before expanding to other Android smartphones.
