Huawei unveils its own PC operating system

Huawei has introduced HarmonyOS PC, also known as Hongmeng Computer in China, at the HarmonyOS Computer Technology and Ecosystem Communication Event. The product is built on three pillars: HarmonyOS Base, which includes the HarmonyOS kernel, Ark Engine, and StarShield architecture; HarmonyOS Ecosystem, featuring over 150 exclusive applications and integration for more than 2,000 universal apps; and HarmonyOS Experience, supporting over 1,000 external devices and 800 standard peripherals. The PC incorporates deep AI integration and will officially launch on May 19.

Huawei unveils a HarmonyOS laptop, its first Windows-free computer

Microsoft will soon allow AI to change your Windows 11 settings

Microsoft is introducing a new AI assistant within the Windows 11 settings app, designed to assist users by adjusting settings upon request and providing guidance on tasks. The AI assistant will be positioned at the top of the Settings app and will have the ability to autonomously adjust settings with user approval. It is currently available on Copilot+ PCs and will soon roll out to Windows Insiders on standard x86-powered systems, though an official release date for all Windows 11 users has not yet been announced. Additionally, the Photos app will receive new dynamic lighting controls, the Snipping Tool will feature an improved cropping area, a text extractor, and a color picker. A significant update called Copilot Vision will enable users to share browser and app windows with Copilot for enhanced assistance. These features will first be tested through the Windows Insider program before being released to the general public.

Epic isn’t going to be policing AI Fortnite thumbnails

Windows 11’s Recall AI is now rolling out on Copilot+ PCs

Google highlights smarter Gemini capabilities when integrating the Photos app

The game Inzoi, reminiscent of The Sims, is one of the first to utilize Nvidia Ace, enhancing character interactions through 'thought bubbles' that reveal emotions and intentions. The AI system is powered by the Mistral NeMo Minitron, a language model with 500 million parameters, using 1 GB of VRAM. This model is limited to NPCs within the player's line of sight and does not change a character's life trajectory. While smaller models can lead to inaccuracies, the potential for larger models in expansive RPGs is significant. Nvidia has maintained an 8 GB memory standard for its mainstream graphics cards, but the demand for more advanced AI may prompt a reevaluation of VRAM offerings. High-end GPUs like the RTX 5070 Ti and RTX 5080 offer 16 GB of VRAM, which is becoming more common in affordable graphics cards.
