Windows 11’s Snipping Tool gets a handy upgrade it should’ve had from day one

Microsoft has updated the Snipping Tool in Windows 11 to version 11.2504.38.0, introducing a built-in color picker that allows users to determine exact color values from their screen in HEX, RGB, and HSL formats. The color picker operates by hovering a dropper icon over any area of the screen. Users can also zoom in or out for precision using Ctrl and the +/- keys. Additionally, an AI-powered feature called Perfect Screenshot intelligently resizes screenshots based on selected content. Users can access this feature through keyboard shortcuts by holding the Ctrl key while invoking the Snipping Tool. These features are currently being tested for Windows Insiders in the Canary and Dev channels, with a gradual rollout expected.

Microsoft Notepad gets an AI makeover

Microsoft is introducing an AI-powered feature called “Write” to Notepad as part of the Copilot Plus initiative, transforming it into a more interactive tool. The “Write” feature allows users to generate and refine text by right-clicking within a document to access a prompt box powered by Windows Copilot. Users can submit ideas, and the AI drafts text based on the input, offering options to accept, refine, or restart the writing process. Microsoft is also enhancing Paint with an AI sticker generator and an object selection tool, and the Snipping Tool will feature automatic cropping and resizing of screenshots. Users must sign in with a Microsoft account and use a Windows 11 system with a Copilot Plus PC to access these new features, and a credit system will meter the use of the AI tools.

Microsoft introduced an AI-powered feature called Recall, which captures and catalogs snapshots of a user's screen in a scrollable timeline. Initially intended to be disabled by default, it is now enabled automatically with the 24H2 release across all PCs. Disabling Recall disrupts important functionality in the Windows operating system, particularly affecting the new File Explorer with multi-tab functionality, which relies on Recall and Copilot. Users have reported that creating a Windows Pro 24H2 ISO using MicroWin results in a downgrade of File Explorer. A workaround has been devised to disable Recall components after user login while keeping them intact.

Fitbit app downloaded over 100 million times on Google Play Store

The Fitbit Android app has surpassed 100 million downloads in the Google Play Store since its launch on March 16, 2012. It serves as a companion application for Fitbit smartwatches and trackers, available on Android phones and tablets. The app includes features for the latest models, such as widgets and live wallpapers, and extends functionality to the Wear OS platform for the Pixel Watch. A recent interface update introduced new metrics like sleep quality and heart rate.
