Here’s a new trick to installing Windows 11 without a Microsoft account

Microsoft removed the BypassNRO.cmd script from the preview versions of Windows 11 for Insiders on the Dev Channel to enhance security and user experience, ensuring all users exit setup with internet connectivity and a Microsoft Account. The script previously allowed users to bypass the Microsoft Account requirement during installation. A new workaround has been discovered by Windows Insider testers, allowing users to create a local account during installation by entering a specific command in the command prompt. The removal of BypassNRO.cmd currently affects only the preview version, while the script remains available in public versions of Windows 11. It is expected that the script will be phased out from all Windows 11 PCs later this year.

New Windows zero-day exposes NTLM credentials, gets unofficial patch

A newly discovered zero-day vulnerability allows attackers to capture NTLM credentials from Windows users by simply viewing a malicious file in File Explorer. This flaw affects multiple Windows versions, including Windows 7, Server 2008 R2, and Windows 11 24H2, and has been reported to Microsoft, but no official fix has been issued. The exploit triggers an outbound NTLM connection to a remote share, leading to the automatic transmission of NTLM hashes associated with the logged-in user, which can be intercepted and cracked for unauthorized access. 0patch has previously reported two other unresolved vulnerabilities to Microsoft and will offer a micropatch for this issue free of charge until an official fix is provided. Users can also disable NTLM authentication as an alternative solution.

Western Digital NVMe SSD users beware: Windows 11 24H2 is causing BSODs unless you tweak your registry | Tom’s Hardware

Since October 8, users of Western Digital NVMe SSDs, particularly the WD Blue SN580 and WD Black SN770, have reported persistent Blue Screens of Death (BSOD) following the Windows 11 24H2 update. This issue is linked to a misconfigured NVMe Host Memory Buffer (HMB), which has been observed to allocate up to 200MB instead of the intended 64MB, causing instability. A Registry edit can limit HMB allocation back to 64MB or disable it entirely, resolving the issue. Users of Western Digital SATA SSDs are not affected, and the problem may also impact other NVMe drives due to a misconfiguration in Windows 11. Some users have successfully reverted the Windows 11 24H2 update as an alternative solution.

StartAllBack brings 24H2 support to stop Windows 11 upgrade block, performance boost too

The Start menu in Windows 11 has faced user dissatisfaction, prompting some to use third-party applications like StartAllBack to customize it.
