Microsoft has extended its Extended Security Updates (ESU) program for Windows 10 by an additional year, allowing users to continue receiving critical updates without the immediate need to transition to Windows 11. Users already enrolled in the ESU program can maintain their current operating system without additional steps, while those not yet signed up can access the updates by purchasing an ESU license through a Microsoft partner, enrolling in a volume licensing agreement that includes ESU, or utilizing a Microsoft Cloud Solution Provider (CSP) for subscription-based access.
Microsoft has extended its free consumer Windows 10 Extended Security Updates (ESU) program by an additional year, with the new deadline for critical security patches set for October 14, 2027. The ESU program was originally scheduled to end on October 12, 2026. Devices already enrolled in the program will automatically transition to the new date. Approximately 400 million active PCs are unable to upgrade to Windows 11 due to hardware limitations. IDC forecasts a 10% to 20% rise in prices for PCs, tablets, and smartphones through the end of 2026. Third-party solutions, such as unofficial Windows 10 micropatches from security firm 0patch, will be available through 2030.
Google has introduced new investing features and an Android app for Google Finance as of June 25. The updated portfolios tool allows users to monitor investments from a single dashboard, with existing portfolios automatically integrated and new users able to create portfolios by uploading files or describing investments. Users can utilize a research tool to analyze their investment strategies and customize notifications on specific topics. The new Google Finance app provides access to watchlists, real-time data, financial news, and AI-powered insights. This development aligns with a trend where 62% of Generation Z consumers are open to using AI for financial planning, with over 60% engaging with AI tools through smartphone apps. Google Finance was initially launched in the U.S. last year and expanded to Europe last month.
Microsoft has extended its free Windows 10 Extended Security Updates (ESU) program for consumers to provide essential security updates until October 12, 2027. This extension allows users more time to transition to Windows 11, as Windows 10 will no longer receive support after October 14, 2025. The initial expiration date for the free ESU program was October 12, 2026. Consumers can access these updates by backing up their Windows settings, redeeming 1,000 Microsoft reward points, and for users in the European Economic Area, logging into Windows 10 with a Microsoft account. An ESU license can be used on up to 10 devices linked to the same Microsoft account, but the program is not available for systems managed through Active Directory or Mobile Device Management, though devices registered with Microsoft Entra are eligible.
Microsoft has extended the security updates for Windows 10 users by an additional year, with the new end date for the Extended Security Updates (ESU) program set for October 12, 2027. This extension applies automatically to existing ESU enrollees, and new users can sign up until the deadline. The change was confirmed by a Microsoft spokesperson in an editor's note added to a blog post. The extension does not apply to corporate Windows deployments, which require costly ESU subscriptions that extend support until October 2028.
Game director Dustin Browder announced that the PvPvE game Wildgate will halt further updates due to an insufficient player base, despite ongoing occasional updates for bug fixes and events. The game will remain available for purchase on all platforms, and the Discord server will be managed by community members. There are currently no plans for layoffs at Moonshot Games. Critics noted the game's potential but highlighted inconsistencies in gameplay experience. Wildgate received a "mostly positive" user rating on Steam, but its audience declined after launch, even with updates and a free trial version. Moonshot Games hopes their next project will resonate better with gamers.
Microsoft has extended the free coverage of its Windows 10 Extended Security Updates (ESU) program for consumers by an additional year, now lasting until October 12, 2027. This change was noted in updates to Microsoft's ESU documentation and a blog post. Previously, Windows 10 was set to reach its end of support on October 14, 2025, with initial ESU coverage expiring on October 12, 2026. Consumers can access the extended security updates through various methods, including payment, backing up settings to a Microsoft account, redeeming Microsoft reward points, or for users in the European Economic Area, by logging in with a Microsoft account. Each ESU license can be used on up to 10 devices linked to the same account, and the program is only for personal devices, not those managed through Active Directory or MDM.
Microsoft is expected to extend the Windows 10 Extended Security Updates (ESU) program by an additional year, with the new end date set for October 12, 2027, instead of the previously stated October 2026. This change is reflected on the Microsoft website, which confirms the new timeline.
Riot Games has introduced a new feature for its Vanguard anti-cheat system called Vanguard On-Demand, which allows the kernel driver to load only when a Riot game is launched and unload upon exit. This change ends the previous practice of loading the driver at Windows start-up, which has been in place since 2020. The new mode is supported by Windows 11 25H2 and requires specific hardware configurations, including UEFI Secure Boot, TPM 2.0, Virtualization-Based Security (VBS), Hypervisor-Protected Code Integrity (HVCI), and IOMMU. Approximately 35% of players currently meet these hardware requirements, while around 3% are using incompatible systems. Riot has created a checklist called Vanguard Pre-Check to help players determine if their systems qualify. The percentage of fully secured machines is estimated to be around 34.33% and is increasing monthly. Players whose systems do not meet the criteria will need to make manual adjustments in their BIOS. Vanguard On-Demand mode will be available for players on Windows 11 starting later today. The feature is based on Microsoft’s Runtime Driver Attestation Report, which tracks driver activity since boot and helps ensure no vulnerable drivers have been loaded while Vanguard is inactive. Riot Games has required TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot on Windows 11 since 2020 and has faced criticism for these requirements. Enabling VBS and HVCI may affect frame rates and could disable older peripheral drivers due to Microsoft's vulnerable driver blocklist.
