The Google Play Store is working on a new way to find apps using images

Users can now attach images from their device's camera or gallery to Ask Play queries, allowing for contextualized searches. This feature enables users to upload images and ask specific questions about them, facilitating the discovery of apps that meet particular needs. Additionally, Google plans to retire the "Ask Play about this app" section in favor of a horizontally scrollable strip of contextual question chips. When tapped, these suggestions will display tailored answers in an updated Ask Play bottom sheet overlay. These features are not yet publicly available.

The scams involve Telegram Mini Apps that display phishing pages, fake dashboards showing fictitious earnings, and urgency tactics to pressure users into making quick decisions. FEMITBOT mimics well-known brands like Apple and Coca-Cola to enhance credibility and disseminates Android malware disguised as legitimate applications. The operation is highly organized, utilizing marketing tools to optimize their scams. Users are warned to be cautious of bots requesting deposits before granting access to funds.

Telegram Mini Apps abused for crypto scams, Android malware delivery

Cybersecurity researchers have identified a fraud operation named FEMITBOT that exploits Telegram’s Mini App feature to conduct various crypto scams, impersonate reputable brands, and distribute Android malware. This operation uses a unique string in API responses and employs Telegram bots with embedded Mini Apps to create convincing app-like experiences. The scams include fraudulent cryptocurrency platforms and financial services, with impersonation of brands like Apple, Coca-Cola, Disney, eBay, IBM, Moon Pay, NVIDIA, and YouKu. The operation utilizes a shared backend infrastructure, allowing multiple phishing domains to use the same API response. Users interacting with the bots are shown phishing pages within Telegram’s WebView, often featuring fake balances and urgency tactics to prompt deposits or referrals. Additionally, some Mini Apps attempt to distribute malware disguised as legitimate Android APKs. Users are advised to be cautious when engaging with Telegram bots related to cryptocurrency investments and to avoid sideloading APK files.

Windows 11 Store gets Ninite-style multi-app installer feature

The Microsoft Store has launched a feature that allows users to create a multi-app install package for Windows 11, enabling the simultaneous installation of multiple applications through a single installer. Lloyds customers will soon be able to benefit from new app feature

Customers of Lloyds, Halifax, and Bank of Scotland will be able to deposit cash using a new feature launching on August 26. This feature utilizes a barcode system, allowing deposits of up to £300 per day and a monthly cap of £600. Over 30,000 PayPoint locations across the UK will facilitate these deposits. Customers can generate a barcode through their mobile banking app, present it at a PayPoint location, and have funds credited to their accounts within minutes. Traditional banking services will still be available at Lloyds branches and over 11,500 post offices.
