Google is killing Android Instant Apps, but you probably won’t miss them

Google's Android Instant Apps feature will be discontinued by December 2025 due to limited adoption among developers. Perplexity launches an assistant for Android

AI-powered search engine Perplexity has launched a new feature called Perplexity Assistant, available for Android devices, which integrates reasoning, search capabilities, and app functionalities. Gemini could soon become super powerful for Samsung apps with new extensions (APK teardown)

Evidence from the Samsung Reminders app suggests a connection to the upcoming App Functions feature in Android 16, allowing Gemini to perform tasks across Samsung apps like Clock, Notes, Reminders, and Calendar. An APK teardown revealed potential functionalities, including creating and managing tasks, reminders, alarms, notes, and events. A flag in the code indicates that system apps with the ASSISTANT role will have permissions to execute user commands within these applications. However, these features are not yet active and will depend on the stable release of Android 16 for full functionality.
