The technology behind Half-Life, known as GoldSrc, is a modified version of the Quake engine, and remnants of Quake code are present in Valve's Source 2. A modder named KleskBY is developing a project called Libre-life, which aims to port elements from Half-Life into Quake source ports, particularly focusing on the Zircon Engine. KleskBY believes that older engines like GoldSrc have limitations that hinder creativity and prefers using Quake source ports over Xash3D, arguing that they offer capabilities that Xash does not. Libre-life is in early development, with progress including the reimplementation of all weapons from Half-Life 1. KleskBY uses AI extensively in the project, despite expressing strong negative opinions about AI's broader implications.

Dreamcore explores "liminal spaces," featuring environments like indoor pools, low-poly suburbia, and children's play areas, with a notable "liminal hotel" inspired by the Backrooms meme. Liminal spaces evoke feelings of transition and emptiness and have gained popularity on platforms like Steam. Since its release in January 2025, Dreamcore has introduced a new map called Dead Mall, reminiscent of 1990s super malls. Other titles in the genre include Pools, Tainted Pools, and Liminal Waters, while games like Dream Logic offer a PS1-era twist. Dreamcore is noted for its diverse themes and well-optimized performance, allowing players to explore unsettling landscapes. Steam's sales chart from May 12 - 19 lists the top games by revenue, with Subnautica 2 leading, followed by Forza Horizon 6, Counter-Strike 2, and PUBG: Battlegrounds. LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Night is expected to rise in the charts, and 007 First Light is gaining traction due to pre-orders. Librarian: Tidy Up The Arcane Library ranks eighth despite its April release. A humorous user review for Bubsy 4D received attention for its candidness.

Riot Games has removed the track "Remember Me," performed by D4vd, from the League of Legends Arcane Season 2 soundtrack on Spotify due to the artist's legal issues, including a charge of first-degree murder. D4vd, whose real name is David Anthony Burke, is currently pleading not guilty and is held at the Men's Central Jail in Los Angeles. The soundtrack now transitions directly from "Paint the Town Blue" by Ashnikko to "Isha's Song" by Eason Chan, omitting "Remember Me." Burke's original version of the song is also unavailable on Spotify, likely due to Riot Games holding the rights. Other industry responses include fashion brands removing Burke from campaigns and Kali Uchis requesting the removal of their collaborative single from Spotify. Players have petitioned Epic Games to remove Burke's character skin from Fortnite, but Epic has decided to retain it while offering refunds.
