Windows 12 won’t be released in 2026, despite rumours

There are no plans to release Windows 12 this year, according to sources familiar with Microsoft's roadmap. The focus is on enhancing Windows 11, addressing user feedback, and improving its reputation. Claims about Windows 12, codenamed Hudson Valley Next, and its features, including a modular CorePC architecture and deep AI integration, have been refuted. CorePC was a project from 2023 that aimed to revive the WCOS vision but is likely scrapped. The codename Hudson Valley is unrelated to Windows 12, and speculations about a redesigned interface and subscription model lack official backing. Zac Bowden from Windows Central suggests that if Windows 12 is released, it won't be before 2027. Windows 11 has recently reached a record high market share as support for Windows 10 ends.

Where Google Wallet state IDs are available on Android

States in the U.S. are integrating driver's licenses and state IDs into the Google Wallet app for Android users. To add a state ID, users must open the Google Wallet app, tap “Add to Wallet,” select “ID,” choose “Driver’s license or state ID,” pick their state, and follow the instructions, which include capturing images of the ID and a verification video. Approved digital IDs will appear in the app and can be rearranged or removed remotely. Supported states include Arizona, California, Colorado, Georgia, Iowa, Maryland, Montana, New Mexico, and North Dakota, with upcoming support for Arkansas, Ohio, Puerto Rico, and West Virginia. Digital IDs can be used at TSA checkpoints in select airports and for identity verification with car rental services. Google is implementing Zero-Knowledge Proof technology for secure identity verification. Users can also create an ID pass from a U.S. passport for TSA security at supported airports, which involves taking a picture of the passport, scanning its security chip, and recording a verification video. This digital passport ID can also be used via NFC or QR code, but users must carry the physical passport while traveling.

Google Wallet on Android extends its streak of digital State ID support

Google Wallet is now supporting digital State IDs in Arkansas, making it the 10th state to offer this feature. Users can add their ID by photographing the front and back of it and taking a video selfie for verification. Arkansas joins other states like California, Arizona, and Georgia in adopting digital IDs. The initiative is part of Google's ongoing effort to integrate digital IDs into users' lives, with plans extending through the end of 2024. While both Arkansas and Montana were announced to receive support, only Arkansas is currently available as of October 6. Additionally, Google is working on digital ID capabilities for select Railcards in the U.K.
