Google has launched its Google Drive app for Arm-compatible Windows PCs powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processors, now available as a general release after being in beta. The Arm64 version offers the same functionalities as the traditional app and is exclusively available for Windows 11, requiring Microsoft WebView 2. Beta testers will receive an upgrade prompt, while new users can download the app from Google’s website. This release aligns with the increasing support for Arm64 architecture in applications, including Google Chrome, NordVPN, and ExpressVPN. Microsoft is also working on updates to improve software and gaming experiences through its Prism emulator.

Google Drive for Desktop has introduced a beta version that supports Windows on Arm, optimized for Arm64 architecture. Users need a Windows 11 PC with an Arm processor and the WebView2 runtime from Microsoft to use the app. The beta version lacks the Outlook Meet plugin, which may be a drawback for some users. Google Drive is now the second major application optimized for Windows on Arm, following Google Chrome. The Quick Share app is compatible but runs through emulation, potentially causing performance issues. Users are advised to use the beta with non-essential data or ensure backups.

The Vulkan SDK beta (v1.3.290.0) has been launched for developers creating Vulkan API applications for Windows on Arm, featuring Arm64x layers for debugging x8664 Vulkan binaries. This allows x8664 applications to run on Arm64 devices without a complete rebuild. The SDK includes a native Arm64 shader toolchain and retains existing file names and libraries for easier porting. Installation requires Windows 11 on Arm (64 bits), a Vulkan Installable Client Driver, at least 8 GB of memory, and about 1 GB of storage. Certain components are currently missing but will be added in future updates. Vulkan is a low-level graphics and compute API that provides enhanced control over GPU resources.
