This feature was initially launched for Pixel 9, Galaxy S25, and Gemini Advanced subscribers. Users can activate it by tapping "Share screen with Live" in the "Ask Gemini" window, enabling them to share their camera or navigate apps while receiving tailored responses. The feature enhances user experiences by facilitating brainstorming, troubleshooting, personal shopping advice, and skill development. Users can manage screen sharing through notifications and stop sharing at any time. Google has also introduced an auto-delete functionality for privacy concerns regarding audio, video, and screen shares.

Encrypted messaging apps promise privacy. Government transparency is often the price

In the aftermath of a wildfire in Maui in 2023 that resulted in over 100 fatalities, text messages among emergency management personnel have come to light, indicating potential use of untraceable messaging services like Signal. The presence of government officials on encrypted platforms has raised concerns about transparency, as these apps often evade public records laws. An investigation revealed over 1,100 officials across the U.S. using such applications, which complicate public accountability. Instances of improper use of encrypted messaging have been documented, and while these apps enhance privacy, they also hinder transparency. The U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency recommends their use for confidential communications, but these fall outside public record laws. New Mexico faced a court settlement for instructing employees to use Signal for internal communications without clear regulations. Michigan lawmakers have banned the use of such apps if they obstruct public records requests, but enforcement remains challenging. Experts call for stronger public record laws and independent enforcement to improve government transparency.

Samsung keeps adding new features to the Messages app it supposedly sunset

Samsung has updated its Messages app with new features, including the ability to edit messages sent to other Galaxy devices running One UI 7, allowing up to three edits within 15 minutes after sending. Each edited message is marked, and a history of edits can be accessed. Additionally, there is an auto-delete function for one-time password (OTP) messages, which deletes them after 24 hours and permanently after 30 days. These features are reportedly available on the Galaxy S25, but some users have faced limitations based on regional software versions. The editing feature is likely limited to RCS messages, as SMS does not support it. Despite previous statements about phasing out the Messages app, the updates suggest Samsung's continued commitment to it.
