A community of gamers continues to support legacy platforms despite Steam discontinuing support for Windows 7, Windows 8, and Windows 8.1. Eazy Black has unofficially ported the latest Steam Client Beta (from December 4, 2025) to these unsupported operating systems, particularly effective on 64-bit versions of Windows 7 with Service Pack 1 and Windows 8.x. Recommended updates for optimal performance include KB976932, KB2999226, and either KB3080149 or KB4474419. Windows 7 users now represent 0.05% of the gaming community on Steam, while Windows 11 has a 69.2% market share, and 30.66% of Steam users remain on Windows 10, reflecting a 2.17% decline from the previous month.

AMD's FSR 4 upscaling technology delivers 276 frames per second (fps) on the Radeon RX 9070 XT, a 5% decrease compared to FSR 3's 290 fps. Despite this performance dip, FSR 4 shows significant improvements in visual fidelity and has outperformed Nvidia's DLSS 3 in super-resolution quality. FSR 4 incurs a 37% increase in GPU usage but remains a small fraction of the overall frame time. Currently, FSR 4 is exclusive to RDNA 4 GPUs, and there is potential for AMD to backport it to older GPUs, which could enhance its competitiveness against Nvidia, especially in handheld gaming PCs with RDNA 3.5 integrated graphics.

Google has officially ended support for Android 12 and Android 12L, with the last security patch released in March 2025. As of March 31, 2025, these operating systems will no longer receive updates or security enhancements. Over 12% of Android devices globally are still using Android 12 or 12L. OEMs may choose to backport security releases, and users can switch to custom ROMs for continued updates. Popular devices still running these operating systems include the Samsung Galaxy S10 series, Google Pixel 3a series, and OnePlus 7 series.

A developer known as IProgramInCpp has backported Discord to Windows 95 and Windows 98 Second Edition, creating a version called Discord Messenger. This backport retains essential messaging functionalities such as direct messages, server interactions, image uploads, message editing, typing indicators, server member lists, and untrusted URL indicators. However, it lacks features like the friend list, dark mode, and voice channel capabilities, with voice call support being particularly challenging to integrate. The application runs on Windows 98 SE and Windows XP SP2, but may not appeal to users on modern systems. Caution is advised as using a custom Discord client may violate the platform's terms of service, especially since certain features are omitted to avoid spam detection.
