Beeper messaging app that irked Apple is acquired by WordPress.com owner

Automattic Inc has acquired the messaging app Beeper for US5 million, bringing on board Beeper's team of 27, including co-founder Eric Migicovsky. Beeper integrates various messaging platforms into a single inbox and aims to establish an open standard for chat. Apple's dispute with Beeper over an app to run iMessage on Android devices led to regulatory scrutiny. Automattic had previously backed Beeper and is now expanding its communication portfolio with the acquisition.
