Electronic Arts (EA) has announced the closure of BioWare and its Edmonton studio, along with the cancellation of the next installment of the Mass Effect franchise. BioWare, known for titles like Mass Effect and Dragon Age, was acquired by EA in 2008. The next Mass Effect game was initially announced in November 2020, but development was limited to a small team. EA is shifting its focus to more successful franchises, including Battlefield and Iron Man, and is developing other projects like Project Gridiron and Project Evergreen related to The Sims. Employees affected by the closure will receive support for other opportunities within EA, but specific job numbers were not disclosed. EA plans to outline its future direction in a Global Town Hall scheduled for November.
