In 2012, Mojang began developing a Lego-themed spin-off of Minecraft called Brickcraft, which was ultimately canceled due to Lego's brand restrictions. Recently, a version of Brickcraft from June 28, 2012, was discovered and made available to players by Omniarchive. The project faced significant challenges, including disagreements over design elements, such as the inclusion of scratches on Lego bricks, which Lego opposed. Markus "Notch" Persson decided to halt the project due to frustrations with Lego's rules. Brickcraft was intended to feature expansive biomes and engaging gameplay similar to Minecraft, but it was never completed.

LEGO is shifting towards developing its own video games, as announced by CEO Niels Christiansen. The company aims to enhance its creative capabilities in the digital space, offering engaging experiences for children in both digital and physical formats. LEGO plans to make strategic investments aligned with its long-term vision, rather than overextending into new areas. Historically, LEGO has worked with external developers like TT Games but is now taking a more hands-on role in game development, while still potentially maintaining some partnerships, such as with Epic Games for LEGO Fortnite.

Minecraft allows players to craft stone bricks using specific materials. The materials required are cobblestone, four regular stone blocks, a furnace, and optionally, a stonecutter. The crafting process involves collecting cobblestone by mining stone, smelting it in a furnace to create stone, and then arranging four stone blocks in a 2x2 square on a crafting table to produce stone bricks. Variations of stone bricks include mossy stone bricks (crafted with vines), cracked stone bricks (produced by smelting stone bricks), and chiseled stone bricks (crafted using stone brick slabs). Stone bricks can be used in various builds such as fortresses, pathways, bridges, and walls. Console commands for obtaining stone bricks include: /give @p stone_bricks # for Java Edition (1.13+), /give @p stonebricks # for Java Edition (1.8-1.12), and /give @p stonebrick # for Bedrock Edition, replacing # with the desired quantity.
