Microsoft has released Windows 11 Insider Experimental Preview builds 26340.9233 (26H2) and 28120.2760 (26H1), featuring enhancements such as automatic PDF preview support in File Explorer and in-app purchase capabilities for WinUI 3 applications in the Microsoft Store. The 26H1 build addresses a bug causing the mouse cursor to be invisible in some applications but has a known compatibility issue that may prevent some users from launching PUBG: BATTLEGROUNDS. The AutoPlay dialog has been revamped with WinUI, supporting dark mode and improved responsiveness. A new accessibility setting allows apps to open maximized by default, enhancing usability for screen readers and magnification tools. Users can manage camera, microphone, and location permissions for individual desktop applications, providing more control over privacy. File Explorer now supports automatic previews for PDF and non-HTML files, and the Microsoft Store update allows in-app purchases for packaged WinUI 3 apps. Bug fixes include resolving taskbar animation issues and ensuring visibility of the mouse cursor.

Android is used across a wide range of devices, encouraging developers to create applications for various use cases. Android users can find apps for messaging, video editing, photography, productivity, music, navigation, fitness, education, file management, streaming, social networking, and mobile gaming. Modern phones can run games with console-like graphics, multiplayer systems, cloud synchronization, controller support, and large open worlds. Users can download APK files outside Google Play for various reasons, such as version availability and geographic restrictions. A reliable APK download website should provide detailed information about the application before installation. Users should verify the application name, package name, version, Android compatibility, and permissions before installing an APK. XAPK files package the APK with additional resources required by larger applications or games. Android security is becoming stricter, with more protections around application permissions, background activity, storage access, outdated applications, and unknown installation sources. Access to previous app versions can be useful in case updates introduce issues. Android applications are becoming more powerful, performing tasks that previously required computers, thanks to hardware improvements such as powerful processors, large memory, high-refresh-rate displays, fast storage, and capable GPUs.

Windows 11's latest update has caused significant issues for various PC games, with Microsoft acknowledging that some games have become unresponsive following the August patch. Affected titles include Arc Raiders, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, and The Finals. Microsoft is investigating potential links to peripherals or internal components with RGB lighting, which may have problematic drivers like inpoutx64. Discussions suggest that tightened kernel handle validation in the update has exposed driver glitches, leading to game crashes. Players who have not installed the August update may remain unaffected. Suggested workarounds include removing the inpoutx64 driver file by using Command Prompt commands to stop and delete the driver, followed by deleting any instances of the file in the system directory. Many gamers are expressing frustration on social media, with some suggesting alternatives like Linux for a more stable gaming experience. Microsoft is currently investigating the situation.

Navitel has released a software update to fix an aspect ratio issue affecting users of Android Auto, which was first reported in July. The problem was traced to the Navitel head unit software, not the Android Auto app, and impacted multiple head unit models. Users experienced distorted images and text, despite troubleshooting efforts. The update requires manual installation via a microSD card, as it is not available over-the-air. After the update, users can reconnect their Android phones, and Android Auto should function correctly. The latest version of Android Auto, 17.4, is available on the Google Play Store, with a new build expected by the end of the month and a major update planned for the next quarter.

Microsoft is reducing the functionality of Windows Media Player Legacy in the latest update, Windows 11 Experimental Build 29648.1000, by restricting caption controls. Users can no longer enable captions in the legacy player and are prompted to switch to the modern Media Player instead. This change was first noted by Windows enthusiast Xeno Panther and indicates a deliberate move by Microsoft to encourage users to adopt the newer application. In the previous Experimental Build 26340.9212, captions were still operational, but the latest build has removed options for Off and Defaults, leaving only "On if available." When attempting to activate captions, users receive a message stating that captions cannot be enabled in Windows Media Player Legacy. The modern Media Player does offer enhanced caption customization features, such as font size and color adjustments, but it has been criticized for its performance issues. The modern app takes longer to open videos and consumes significantly more RAM while idle compared to the legacy version. Additionally, the modern Media Player requires users to purchase HEVC Video Extensions to play HEVC files, which the legacy player supports without additional costs. Despite these changes, the Legacy Media Player still retains features like library view and CD burning, and it remains an optional feature in Windows 11. Microsoft has previously removed other functionalities from the legacy player, such as the Sync tab in 2023. As users look for alternatives, third-party open-source media players like VLC and mpv are becoming more popular, with mpv recommended for its performance and minimal interface.
