A Minecraft Movie was released in theaters on April 4th and has a score of 46% on Rotten Tomatoes. The film follows Henry, played by Sebastian Hansen, who opens a portal to the "overworld" and embarks on a quest with Steve, voiced by Jack Black. Key female characters include Henry's sister Natalie, played by Emma Myers, and real estate agent Dawn, portrayed by Danielle Brooks. The film has faced criticism for its portrayal of female characters, who are depicted as struggling and reliant on male characters. It reinforces stereotypes that women are inept at video games and does not pass the Bechdel test, as conversations between female characters primarily focus on a male character, Henry.

De Montfort University (DMU) in Leicester has created a virtual campus in Minecraft to support students with autism, allowing them to socialize and build friendships. Eden Turner, a 23-year-old student, has reconstructed parts of the university, including the library, to create a welcoming environment for autistic students. Clare Squires, DMU's autism officer, emphasized the initiative's role in fostering community and belonging, particularly for new students. The project helps reduce anxiety by familiarizing students with the campus layout and providing a low-pressure space for interaction. Plans are in place for Eden to expand the virtual campus further.

Lisa Dupar owns a restaurant and catering business in Redmond, which she started four decades ago. Initially hesitant about opening in what seemed a remote area, her business thrived after she began delivering food to Microsoft, which was then a startup. Microsoft recently celebrated its 50th anniversary with an event attended by around 1,000 employees, including its three CEOs: Bill Gates, Steve Ballmer, and Satya Nadella. The company has invested a billion dollars to enhance its AI infrastructure and develop new products like “Copilot.” Microsoft is also facing challenges with new tax proposals in Washington state. Redmond Mayor Angela Birney highlighted Microsoft's positive impact on the community, including infrastructure investments. Gates and Paul Allen moved the company from Albuquerque to Redmond in 1979 to attract talent. Dupar employs 250 people and has catered events for high-profile executives, crediting Microsoft for her business's longevity.

Users worldwide are experiencing significant disruptions with Facebook Messenger, starting around 10:30 AM ET, affecting regions including the United States, the United Kingdom, Europe, Australia, South America, and Asia. Facebook Messenger has about one billion users as of early 2025. Meta's other messaging platform, WhatsApp, faced similar issues during this outage, with over 8,200 complaints logged on Downdetector in the United States. This incident is reminiscent of a previous outage four years ago that lasted seven hours and resulted in a significant revenue loss, attributed to a faulty update. During that outage, access systems at Facebook's Menlo Park campus were also disrupted. The current situation has led to user frustration and raised concerns about the reliability of major tech firms' infrastructure.

Your Internet Service Provider (ISP) provides internet access and DNS addresses, which are essential for navigating the web. However, relying solely on your ISP's DNS servers can lead to privacy issues, slower speeds, and unreliability. Third-party DNS services can enhance the internet experience on Windows 10. The Domain Name System (DNS) translates website names into IP addresses, and any disruptions can hinder browsing. Changing DNS settings can improve internet speed and safety, with options for parental controls. To change DNS settings on Windows 10, users should access Advanced Network Settings, select the connection to modify, choose IP Version 4 (TCP/IP v4), and enter the preferred and alternate DNS server addresses. iTop VPN is a service that protects online activities, encrypts traffic, alters IP addresses, and safeguards DNS settings. It offers a fast and free service, DNS protection from unauthorized changes, privacy security features, and the ability to unblock content.

Humanities professors Michael Call and Brian Croxall at BYU have launched a video gaming initiative that combines technology and the humanities. Every Monday at 4:00 p.m., students attend a lecture on a selected video game, followed by gameplay throughout the week. The initiative began with games like Stardew Valley and Minecraft and aims to explore various games and their cultural significance. Croxall emphasizes the artistic value of video games, comparing them to traditional forms of art. Call highlights the historical connection between 17th-century French society and gaming, noting the lack of academic discussion around video games on campus. The series provides a platform for interdisciplinary dialogue among faculty. Call points out the cognitive, emotional, and social benefits of gaming, while also cautioning against excessive gaming. He encourages mindfulness and moderation in gaming habits. Call also shares a personal connection to Star Wars Battlefront 2, illustrating the emotional impact of video games.
