The Gemini overlay on Android has been updated to include a new glow effect that extends to the screen's perimeter, featuring a predominant blue hue with hints of red, green, and yellow. The Temporary chat feature on the web has been redesigned, with its icon moved to the top-right corner for better visibility and usability. Users must return to the homepage to initiate a Temporary chat while in a conversation. These updates are being rolled out to all Gemini accounts on the web, with limited availability on mobile devices. A force stop of the Google app may expedite the rollout of the glow effect on Android devices.

Fastfetch version 2.61 has been released, discontinuing support for Windows 7 and 8, with Windows 8.1 as the oldest supported version. The GPU module on Windows now uses DXCore for improved detection accuracy, available only on Windows 10 and later. In the Windows Subsystem for Linux (WSL), the GPU module has been optimized for speed but may have reduced accuracy due to the removal of directx-headers. On Linux, Fastfetch has transitioned to a pure C implementation, enhancing performance and simplifying the build process. New features include a brightness option for color display, detection of Bluetooth keyboards on Linux, display of empty memory slots, support for GlazeWM detection, identification of marketing product names on Asahi Linux, and recognition of M5-based Mac models on macOS. Improvements in hardware detection and system reporting have been made across all platforms, with enhanced SMBIOS data handling and reliability for Intel-based Macs. Stability improvements for terminating child processes on Windows have also been implemented. Critical fixes address missing memory device reporting, CPU cache deduplication issues, accurate window manager version reporting for niri, SSID decoding problems, and a Windows-specific issue affecting the command prompt code page.

Microsoft will eliminate default trust for kernel drivers signed through the outdated cross-signed root program with the April 2026 Windows update. All new kernel drivers must be certified via the Windows Hardware Compatibility Program (WHCP). This change will affect Windows 11 builds 24H2, 25H2, and 26H1, as well as Windows Server 2025, with future versions following the same standards. The update will begin in evaluation mode, monitoring driver loads for compliance before transitioning to enforcement mode. An allow list of reputable drivers will be maintained for legacy hardware, and enterprises can use Application Control for Business policies to authorize specific drivers. Users with older hardware may face compatibility issues if their drivers are not WHCP-certified.

The U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has addressed concerns to the CEOs of major financial service companies, including Mastercard, Visa, PayPal, and Stripe, regarding the potential denial of services to customers based on political or religious beliefs. The letters warn that such practices could lead to investigations and enforcement actions. This initiative follows an incident involving Valve, where Mastercard was alleged to have pressured the company into removing adult-themed games from its Steam platform, although Mastercard clarified it did not directly influence the removals. FTC Chairman Andrew N. Ferguson emphasized the importance of ensuring all law-abiding individuals can engage in commerce. The situation is further complicated by an executive order from former President Donald Trump, which raised concerns about financial institutions surveilling individuals involved in conservative activities. Ferguson urged Mastercard's CEO to prevent unlawful debanking practices by its network members. There is uncertainty regarding a proposed rule change that may not significantly alter the discretion financial institutions have in customer-related decisions. Inquiries have been made to Valve and the FTC about the implications of these letters for adult video games on the Steam platform.

Security researchers have identified a new macOS information stealer called Infiniti Stealer, which extracts sensitive information from Mac users using a social engineering tactic known as ClickFix. This method involves a counterfeit Cloudflare human verification page that prompts users to enter a command in their Mac Terminal, allowing the malware to bypass security measures. The infection process consists of three stages: 1. A Bash dropper script downloads and decodes a hidden payload. 2. A Nuitka loader, designed for Apple Silicon Macs, complicates detection by compiling Python code into a native application. 3. The final payload, Infiniti Stealer, harvests personal data such as browser passwords, macOS Keychain entries, cryptocurrency wallets, and captures screenshots. Indicators of Compromise (IOCs) associated with Infiniti Stealer include: - MD5 Dropper: da73e42d1f9746065f061a6e85e28f0c - SHA256 Stage-3: 1e63be724bf651bb17bcf181d11bacfabef6a6360dcdfda945d6389e80f2b958 - C2 Domain: update-check[.]com - C2 URL: https://update-check[.]com/m/7d8df27d95d9 - Panel: Infiniti-stealer[.]com - Packer Magic: 4b 41 59 28 b5 2f fd (KAY + zstd) - Debug Log: /tmp/.bs_debug.log
