Google implemented new restrictions on the installation of applications from sources outside the Play Store. A poll by Android Authority found that 43% of 3,661 respondents regularly sideload applications, while just over a third reported doing so a few times. About 20% claimed they had never installed apps from outside the Play Store.

Microsoft making much needed change to Windows 11, 10 Patch Tuesday security updates

Microsoft has rolled out new Defender patches for Windows 11 ISOs, aligning with its commitment to security updates. Updates for Microsoft Defender for Endpoint's endpoint detection and response (EDR) will no longer be included with monthly Windows security updates or Patch Tuesdays; they will now be delivered via Microsoft Update. This change aims to allow faster deployment of EDR enhancements independently of the operating system's update cycle. The rollout for Windows 10 began in late May 2026, with plans to extend support to Windows 11 and other versions by fall 2026. EDR updates will be delivered using KB5005292, contingent on prerequisite updates. Systems must run Sense version 10.8798.25857.1000 or later and have specific Windows updates installed to qualify for the new delivery method. Organizations should align their update policies with this new approach before the broader rollout. In case of significant issues, the EDR update can be reverted using a specific command. To implement this solution, logical replication must be enabled on Amazon Aurora through DB cluster parameter groups. Debezium connectors monitor the database's Write-Ahead Logging (WAL) via logical replication slots, converting transaction logs into structured event streams. Key components of the solution include: - Amazon Aurora for PostgreSQL as the source database with logical replication enabled. - A Debezium PostgreSQL connector running on MSK Connect for change capture. - Amazon MSK for message streaming. - An Amazon EC2 instance for testing and consuming change events. Steps to implement the solution include: 1. Creating an Amazon Aurora for PostgreSQL DB cluster and enabling logical replication. 2. Creating an Amazon MSK serverless cluster. 3. Setting up an Amazon EC2 instance to install Kafka and connect to the database. 4. Creating a custom plugin for Amazon MSK to replicate changes from RDS for PostgreSQL. 5. Uploading the custom plugin to an Amazon S3 bucket. 6. Storing credentials in AWS Secrets Manager and creating an IAM role for MSK Connect. 7. Testing the solution by verifying data replication and monitoring real-time changes. Monitoring can be done through CloudWatch Logs and the MSK Connect console, addressing common issues like replication slot lag and connector failures. To avoid charges, resources created during the implementation should be deleted in the correct order.

Fix: Bluetooth Disappeared from Device Manager

Bluetooth functionality can disappear from the Device Manager on Windows, often starting with a missing toggle in the Settings menu. Users may see only Microsoft enumerators or an unidentified device instead of the actual Bluetooth adapter. If the PC does not show a Bluetooth radio after the correct driver path, it indicates a deeper issue beyond normal settings or app problems. To determine if Windows recognizes the Bluetooth radio, check Device Manager for a manufacturer-named adapter like Intel or Realtek. If only Microsoft Bluetooth enumerators are visible, the real adapter is likely missing. If the Bluetooth category is absent, check for unknown devices in Other devices. Ensure Airplane mode is disabled and any physical wireless switch is turned on, as these can hide Bluetooth functionality. Running the Windows Bluetooth Troubleshooter via the Get Help app is recommended before manually changing drivers. After troubleshooting, restart the PC to allow Windows another chance to detect the radio. If Bluetooth reappears, the issue was likely temporary. If not, use Windows Update to check for driver updates, and if necessary, download the latest Bluetooth driver from the PC manufacturer’s support page. If the adapter reappears in Device Manager, uninstall it and allow Windows to rebuild it after a complete shutdown. If Windows still cannot detect any Bluetooth radio after these steps, treat it as a hardware or firmware issue. Verify that the PC has built-in Bluetooth hardware; if it does not appear after installing the correct OEM driver, seek support from the manufacturer. Alternatively, using a USB Bluetooth adapter can indicate that Windows Bluetooth support is operational, suggesting an issue with the built-in radio.

Microsoft is bringing 10 new features to Windows 11’s taskbar and Start menu

Microsoft is planning to introduce several new features and improvements to the Windows 11 taskbar and Start menu in response to user feedback. Users will soon have the ability to reposition the taskbar to the top, left, or right of the screen, with options for icon alignment. A new “Show smaller taskbar buttons” toggle will reduce the physical height of the taskbar, providing more screen space. These features are currently available in the Insider Experimental channel and are expected to roll out to all PCs soon. The Widgets board will also see changes, with the MSN feed being disabled by default and the “Open on hover” behavior eliminated. In the Start menu, users will gain section-level toggles to hide or show the Pinned, Recent, and All Apps sections. The Start menu can be resized to either Small or Large, and a new privacy mode will hide account names and profile pictures. The “Recommended” section will be renamed to “Recent,” and improvements will be made to file relevancy.
