Google can now vibe-code you an Android app

Google has enhanced its coding platform, AI Studio, allowing users to create native Android applications. Developers can prompt the system and preview their apps through an integrated Android emulator, with an option to install on actual devices via a connection to an Android phone. The initial rollout focuses on "personal utility" apps, "hardware-enabled experiences," and "AI-powered experiences" using the Gemini API. Google maintains that all applications must adhere to existing review processes and quality benchmarks before publication on Google Play. Additionally, Google has released a 1.0 version of its command-line interface for building Android applications and plans to integrate app recommendations into Gemini queries, along with a short-form video feed titled "Play Shorts" for user engagement.

Agentic app coding gets an upgrade with Google’s release of Android CLI

Google has introduced a suite of tools to enhance app development on Android by integrating artificial intelligence, announced during the Google I/O developer conference. The tools support AI agents like Claude Code, OpenAI’s Codex, and Google’s own Antigravity and Gemini within Android Studio. The Android CLI has reached version 1.0, allowing developers to use AI agents across various coding platforms. The CLI provides a command, “android studio,” enabling AI agents to access insights related to Android development. Google’s Antigravity platform will also offer an optional bundle that integrates tools from the Android CLI to improve productivity in app development.

Google flips Antigravity into an agentic dev suite, AI Studio app lands on Android

Google has introduced Gemini 3.5 Flash, which offers advanced AI capabilities at a lower cost, alongside Antigravity 2.0, a platform for creating and managing AI agents. Antigravity 2.0 allows for agent orchestration and integrates with Google AI Studio, Firebase, and Android. A new Command Line Interface (CLI) replaces the previous Gemini CLI, requiring migration of existing workflows. The Antigravity Software Development Kit (SDK) enables the creation of custom agents for Gemini, which can be deployed in a managed environment. Google is launching a new AI Ultra tier with increased usage limits and promotional credits. Additionally, a dedicated Android application for AI Studio is being rolled out, allowing users to input ideas and share creations. Pre-registration for the app is available on the Play Store.
