Hackers abuse FTP server banners to deliver new Windows malware

Threat actors are exploiting FTP banners to conceal commands for deploying two undocumented remote access trojans (RATs), E4del and PINHOLE. This method was first observed by MalwareHunterTeam in July 2026, using shortcut files (.LNK) and FTP server banners as dead-drop resolvers to retrieve malicious commands. SOCRadar confirmed that this technique has been weaponized since early July 2026 and remains active, with new infrastructure identified as recently as August 2026. The attacks typically start with a ZIP archive leading to an LNK-based infection chain, likely initiated through phishing tactics. E4del is a Node.js-based RAT disguised within a digitally signed Electron application mimicking Discord, capable of executing commands, capturing screenshots, streaming desktops, and downloading additional payloads. It also includes a module for privilege escalation. PINHOLE retrieves its command and control configuration from Pinterest and SurveyMonkey, designed to leave a minimal footprint and employing shellcode fluctuation. It supports 14 commands, including file management and credential theft, but had only recorded 11 execution events at the time of analysis. SOCRadar notes that while using FTP banners is a novel approach, it is less stealthy than traditional web-based dead-drop resolvers. They provide indicators of compromise to help identify malicious infrastructure and infected machines.

Hackers Are Using a Fake Roblox Cheat To Access Your Webcam and Steal Data

Roblox is facing privacy concerns due to spyware disguised as an "undetected" version of the Xeno Roblox cheat tool. This malware can access screens, record keystrokes, and activate webcams, allowing attackers to execute remote commands. The infection begins when users download a file resembling a legitimate Xeno installation, often shared on platforms like Discord. The malware, previously known as Powercat, has evolved and operates in three stages: 1. The user executes a file named Xeno.exe, which checks for Java and extracts it if necessary. 2. The malware runs a JAR file disguised as decompiler.exe, performing checks to avoid detection. 3. It masquerades as a legitimate Windows DLL file, logging activities and attempting to escalate privileges. If successful, the malware can control the victim's system, access webcams, log keystrokes, and steal sensitive information, including cryptocurrency wallet credentials. To protect against this spyware, users are advised to avoid unofficial cheats, use antivirus software, refrain from clicking unsolicited links, enable two-factor authentication, inspect User Account Control prompts, and consider identity theft protection services.

LabubaRAT malware infiltrates Windows systems while posing as NVIDIA software

LabubaRAT is a newly identified Rust-based remote access tool (RAT) that disguises itself as NVIDIA software to facilitate operations on Windows systems. It establishes a reusable foothold for hands-on activity and can profile the host system, identify security tools, execute commands, transfer files, capture screenshots, and proxy network traffic. LabubaRAT retrieves its configuration at launch via command-line arguments or environment variables, allowing operators to specify parameters like the command-and-control server and API key at runtime. It maintains local state in a SQLite database and supports communication through HTTPS polling, Microsoft Edge WebView2, and DNS tunneling. The malware includes capabilities for command execution, file handling, and establishing persistence through a Windows Run registry key. The entry point for the attack is an executable named nvidia-sysruntime.exe, which masquerades as NVIDIA’s container runtime toolkit. LabubaRAT conducts thorough profiling of the host, checking for installed browsers and security products, and gathers information on the system's specifications. Trojanized LetsVPN installer gives attackers remote access to Windows PCs

A malware campaign has been discovered that exploits the VPN service LetsVPN. Researchers from ThreatLocker found a malicious Windows installer that pretends to be the legitimate LetsVPN application while deploying a remote access trojan (RAT) called GoodPersonRAT. The malware allows attackers to control infected systems using stealth techniques. The malicious installer first deploys the RAT and then installs the authentic LetsVPN application, creating an illusion of legitimacy. The package identified as Kuailian_win-setup.86.msi contains the legitimate LetsVPN installer, a loader, and an encrypted payload. GoodPersonRAT features include remote desktop control, file upload/download, command execution, proxying, keylogging, and clipboard monitoring. It specifically targets Telegram Desktop users by archiving critical account information and altering proxy settings. The malware ensures persistence through Windows services and scheduled tasks and can undermine security software. The LetsVPN installer is legitimate and signed, but the MSI package is unsigned and contains malicious components. Users are advised to download software only from official sources and verify digital signatures.
