Google announced updates at GDC 2026 to enhance the gaming experience on Google Play, including plans to expand its game catalog with new paid and indie PC games. Upcoming titles include Moonlight Peaks, Sledding Game, 9 Kings, Potion Craft, and Low-Budget Repairs, accessible on mobile and PC with synchronized progress. Google is introducing game trials for select paid games on mobile, allowing players to sample games before purchasing, with plans to extend this to PC. A new “buy once, play anywhere” pricing model will let users buy both mobile and PC versions of select games with one purchase. The Play Store’s Games tab will feature a dedicated section for Windows-optimized titles, and users can create wishlists to receive notifications on sales. Community posts will enable users to ask questions and share answers about games, initially available in English for select titles, with plans for expansion. An AI-powered in-game overlay called Play Games Sidekick will provide real-time assistance for select paid games. Google also redesigned the Play Games experience and launched Play Games Leagues for competitive play.

Microsoft has released an update for Minecraft, introducing the Copper Age for both Bedrock and Java Editions. Key features include the Copper Golem, a new mob that can be spawned using a Jack o'Lantern or Carved Pumpkin on a Copper block, which oxidizes over time and can be waxed to maintain its functionality. The Copper Golem helps players sort items into Chests. The update also adds new decorative items: Copper Torch, Copper Bars, Copper Chain, and Copper Lantern, all of which oxidize over time. Facebook will soon discontinue its group chat feature, Community Chats, due to low user engagement. Launched in 2022, the feature aimed to facilitate discussions among group members through Messenger but did not attract the expected interest. Users generally prefer to engage within the Facebook environment rather than extending discussions to other platforms. This decision follows the discontinuation of Facebook's audio discussion rooms in 2023 for similar reasons. The trend indicates that Facebook group members favor interactions that occur within the app rather than through separate messaging alerts. Additionally, there seems to be a cultural difference in user preferences, with Western users favoring separate applications for specific purposes compared to audiences in Asia.
