Zyaire Dontaevious Zamarion Wilkins, a 21-year-old from Florida, was arrested for allegedly leading a cybercrime operation that targeted approximately 8,000 gamers by distributing malware disguised as popular Steam games. Wilkins and two accomplices used social media platforms like Discord, Telegram, X, and LinkedIn to promote their malware-infused games, focusing on individuals with significant cryptocurrency holdings. The compromised games include Dashverse (2024), Lunara (2024), PirateFi (2025), Blockblasters (2025), and Lampy (2026). The FBI's investigation revealed that Bitcoin payments were sent from one of Wilkins' co-conspirators to a user identified as "Sibel.eth," who had lost funds intended for medical treatments for stage 4 cancer.

Modern Warfare 4 beta dates set for August, and this year Game Pass subscribers get no special treatment

Activision has announced the beta schedule for Modern Warfare 4, with two beta weekends planned. The first weekend, from August 21-25, is exclusive to pre-order customers on PC, PS5, and Xbox, while the second weekend, from August 28 to September 1, is an open public beta available on all platforms, including the Switch 2. Participants will have the opportunity to unlock 19 weapons and engage in various combat scenarios, including 3v3 skirmishes and larger battles with vehicles. Players can test new and returning game modes, such as Search & Destroy and Kill Block, as well as a Training Mobility Course. The full game is set to release in late October.

Gears of War’s creator is considering returning to game development, but whatever he makes won’t be PvP like his last efforts: “Good look to anyone in that space.”

In June 2017, Valve introduced Steam Direct, changing the platform's game release process from manual curation to a more open system. Before this, game releases were limited, with only one month—December 2016—exceeding 500 releases. By February 2025, monthly game launches on Steam surpassed 1,500. A study by Sulka Haro analyzed around 53,600 Steam titles released between mid-2023 and mid-2026, noting that in 2024, 10.9% of new games included an AI disclosure, rising to 19.9% in 2025, and reaching 30.8% by July 2026. Non-AI flagged launches increased from about 1,030 to around 1,320 per month, while AI-flagged launches grew from approximately 13 to about 530 monthly. Projections suggest that by 2027 or 2028, nearly half of all games on Steam will have an AI flag. Despite the increase in AI-flagged titles, many struggle financially and receive mediocre reviews. The gaming industry is seeing a rise in generative AI technologies, particularly in management simulation genres. Recent notable releases on Steam include Granblue Fantasy: Relink and Palworld, with anticipation for Star Wars Zero Company on August 27.

18 years later, Gears of War 2 finally comes to PC as a free download
