Android users experiencing unexpected ads after phone calls are encountering a form of ad fraud linked to applications on the Google Play Store that utilize a tactic called AfterCall. These applications, often benign utility apps, request overlay permissions to display ads over the Android interface. They can launch full-screen advertisements disguised as call information screens after detecting the end of a call. Overlay permissions are categorized as "special permissions" and require users to enable them in system settings, rather than through typical installation pop-ups. Users are advised to check for apps with overlay permissions by navigating to Settings > Apps > Special app access and uninstall any unfamiliar applications. Regular audits of these permissions are recommended to disable unnecessary ones. While these apps primarily serve as an annoyance, they can waste advertising dollars and potentially harm brand reputations.

A study by Kaspersky surveyed 7,200 Gen Z individuals across 18 countries and found that only 27% use mobile antivirus software, while 28% regularly back up their phone data. Many have experienced cyberattacks, with 17% reporting hacked social media accounts and 12% losing access to gaming accounts. The study highlights that compromised smartphones can expose sensitive personal information, increasing the risk of identity theft and financial fraud. Kaspersky has introduced an interactive online game, Case 404, to educate Gen Z on recognizing scams and phishing attempts.

Microsoft reassured Windows 11 and Windows 10 users that their PCs will continue to boot normally and receive updates even if they have not yet received the new Secure Boot 2023 certificates. The rollout of these certificates is expected to continue over the upcoming months. The initial Secure Boot certificate expired on June 24, 2026, and Microsoft has been replacing older 2011 certificates since 2024. The latest update, KB5101650, transitioned Windows 11 to OS builds 26200.8875 and 26100.8875 for versions 25H2 and 24H2, respectively. The 2023 certificates replace older certificates with modern cryptographic standards, allowing Microsoft to deliver DBX revocation updates without interruption. Devices using the 2011 KEK can only receive DBX updates signed with that key, which is no longer valid after June 24. Microsoft has been rolling out the 2023 certificates for the past two years, and many devices remained in a yellow or red status by the June deadline. To check Secure Boot status, users can navigate to Windows Security > Device Security. A green checkmark indicates successful application of the certificates, while yellow and red alerts indicate compatibility issues or firmware incompatibility. PCs that are older or operating in Legacy BIOS mode will not receive the updates. Windows 10 also receives Secure Boot updates, but enrollment in Extended Security Updates (ESU) is required.

Microsoft is delivering a second remake of Halo: Combat Evolved using Unreal Engine 5, which offers stunning visuals but poses challenges for players with older or lower-end hardware. The game performs well on high-end systems, such as an RTX 3090 running smoothly at 60 fps in 4K with the High preset. However, it lacks flexibility for performance adjustments, making it more efficient to use higher presets rather than fine-tuning settings. Key settings include: - Effects Quality: Keep high unless performance issues arise. - Geometric Quality: Maintain high until VRAM limitations are a concern. - Global Illumination Quality: Can be kept high without significant performance impact. - Lighting Quality: Adjust for substantial performance gains if frame rates dip below 60 fps. - Texture Quality: Adjust based on available VRAM. - Reflections: Dial down to medium or low to enhance frame rates. - Atmospheric Quality: Based on personal preference. - Post-Processing Quality: Can be adjusted down with minimal performance impact. - Screen Shake: Toggle based on personal preference. - Motion Blur: Consider turning off due to intensity. - Upscaling Technique: Choose based on GPU brand. - Async Compute: Keep off unless using a high-end graphics card and CPU. - Low Latency Mode: Select based on GPU for optimal responsiveness. - Frame Generation: Can enhance frame rates but may introduce latency.

The beta for Marvel Tōkon: Fighting Souls lasted three days and faced significant challenges, including PlayStation Network outages on launch day and performance issues for PC players, such as severe stuttering and poor optimization. Some players reported a seamless experience, while others criticized the PC port as one of the worst in recent times. Arc System Works acknowledged the issues and is investigating solutions, promising updates and providing troubleshooting options. Speculation about the causes of performance problems included background processes from anti-cheat and PlayStation services. Despite these issues, the beta reached a peak of 33,233 concurrent players on Steam, surpassing previous records set by Street Fighter 6 and Tekken 8. The official release is scheduled for August 6, leaving developers with just over a week to address the feedback and performance issues.

Cyan Worlds, the developer of the iconic game Myst, laid off approximately half of its workforce in 2025 due to financial struggles. In the same year, they developed a prototype for a new Myst game, codenamed Project Anglerfish, but the project is not currently in development due to a lack of interest from publishers. A teaser for the game was released, generating mixed reactions from fans who expressed disappointment over its cancellation while also showing a strong desire for a continuation of the Myst legacy. Despite the challenges in the current gaming landscape, there remains a dedicated audience for a new Myst experience, and Cyan has previously found success with crowdfunding for other projects.
