The Pixel Search app has been updated to version 1.0.983036833, introducing a "Privacy & Permissions" section that allows users to manage data usage. This section includes toggles for "Help improve Pixel Search," "Call Logs," and "SMS," enabling users to control whether their call logs and SMS history are used for contact suggestions. Disabling these toggles does not prevent call history or messages from appearing in search results; users must revoke permissions in the app’s "App Permissions" page for complete removal. Additionally, the app's code hints at a future feature called "Gemini-powered suggestions," which aims to provide relevant information and actions to users. The updated app is available on the Play Store for the Pixel 11 series, and older Pixel devices can sideload it if running Android 17 QPR2 Beta 5 or newer.

A solo developer named YesterMester has revived The Simpsons Game, originally released by Electronic Arts in 2007, by recompiling the Xbox 360 version to run on Windows, Linux, and Steam Deck. The latest version, 0.0.6.2, was released on GitHub in early October 2026 and features capabilities such as booting up, playing videos, saving progress, loading levels, and engaging gameplay. The game utilizes static recompilation to convert approximately 82,000 game functions into a standard x86-64 application, allowing for smooth gameplay at 60 frames per second. Players can enhance visuals with features like supersampling and anisotropic filtering, and the game now supports keyboard and mouse controls with customizable settings. Installation requires downloading a launcher, and a NoAVX2 package is available for older processors.

Microsoft has warned Windows users about a cyber threat that disguises itself as a CAPTCHA test, where cybercriminals use fraudulent verification pages to trick users into executing commands that can install malware. This tactic involves users being directed to a compromised website that presents a fake verification window, prompting them to copy text and execute it in the Windows Run dialog. This method allows attackers to bypass antivirus software by pre-loading malicious scripts disguised as harmless images in the browser's cache. Once activated, the malware collects system information, steals data, and maintains long-term control over the system. Microsoft recommends using robust security software and being aware that no legitimate service will ask users to copy and paste commands into system dialogs.

IAB Tech Lab has released version 1.6.10 of its Open Measurement SDK for Android, introducing the ability for verification scripts for native ads to run within Android's Jetpack JavaScriptEngine instead of the traditional WebView. This update, effective from October 1, 2026, allows for a significant reduction in verification check initiation time, with the sandbox environment taking approximately 11 milliseconds compared to 268 milliseconds in the WebView. Applications that do not implement this new feature will continue to function as before, and HTML-based ads are not included in this update. The JavaScriptEngine library allows JavaScript evaluation without a WebView, reducing resource consumption and enabling compatibility with background services. The adoption process for this feature involves updating to OM SDK Android 1.6.10 or later, integrating the androidx.javascriptengine dependency, and maintaining the sandbox throughout the app's lifecycle.
