A non-functional button has been discovered in the File Explorer app of the latest Windows 11 preview builds, which appears when users hover over a vacant area in the navigation bar. This button is speculated to be related to a feature called "Chat with Copilot," suggesting an interactive element for user experience. Users may soon be able to detach the Copilot interface from the File Explorer window, potentially as a sidebar or pop-up, allowing direct engagement with Copilot regarding selected documents and files.

Microsoft is developing a new dedicated OneDrive app for Windows 11, featuring a modern interface focused on photo and video viewing, file management, and editing capabilities. The app was discovered through leaks revealing an executable file named OneDrive.app.exe. Upon launch, it presents a new OneDrive icon on the Taskbar and showcases a photo library with a design that combines Fluent Design principles and web aesthetics. Key features include a Copilot functionality for quick access to chat about files, a gallery tab for photo and video editing, and a Moments feature that displays curated images from previous years. The app has a redesigned gallery mode with a floating menu bar for editing or deleting photos and includes built-in editing tools similar to those in the Windows Photos app. Despite its appealing design, there are questions about its necessity since OneDrive is already integrated into File Explorer and the Photos app. Initial impressions indicate the app performs well for a web-based application, with a scheduled OneDrive event on October 8 that may provide more information about its rollout.

Microsoft is introducing Copilot Chat to its applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and OneNote, for paying Microsoft 365 business customers. Copilot Chat is an AI-driven chat solution that provides web-based insights, unlike its predecessor, which accessed organizational content. It is available at no additional cost for users with Entra accounts holding specific Microsoft 365 licenses. Users can access Copilot Chat in a side pane, allowing for seamless interaction while working on documents. A Microsoft 365 Copilot license enables access to all work data, enhancing the functionality of Copilot Chat. Microsoft plans to automatically install the Microsoft 365 Copilot app on Windows devices outside the EEA region starting next month, with IT administrators able to opt out. Additionally, Microsoft will integrate Copilot agents into the Edge sidebar in late September 2025.
