Microsoft is asking for 30 of your American dollars to keep Windows 10 safe for a year after it’s put out to pasture

The Extended Security Updates (ESU) program will be available to consumers for the first time, allowing users of older systems to receive critical security updates for an additional year. The ESU program is a temporary solution and not intended as a long-term fix. Consumers will pay a fee for a single year of security updates, while businesses will face escalating costs that double each year. If a business joins in the second year, it must also pay for the first year's updates, as the ESUs are cumulative. The ESU program provides a way to maintain security for Windows 10 users before transitioning to Windows 11.

Microsoft teases a new OneDrive UX for Windows 11 and macOS

What’s new with Taskbar and Start menu on Windows 11 version 24H2 (2024 Update)

The Windows 11 2024 Update (version 24H2) will introduce enhancements to the Start menu and Taskbar, including the removal of the “Copilot” button from the System Tray, replaced by a new web application accessible through Microsoft Edge. The Quick Settings flyout will be scrollable, and a new “Refresh” button will be added to the “Wi-Fi” page. The “VPN” page will allow easier toggling of connections, and users with a Copilot+ PC will gain access to Windows Studio Effects. A “Live Captions” button will be added to Quick Settings, and a new “Recall” button will be available for users with the Windows Recall feature. Keyboard shortcuts will be improved, allowing users to focus on the Taskbar and select apps more easily. A hover card feature for inactive and pinned apps will be introduced. Microsoft Edge is ditching rounded corners design for tabs

The rounded tabs feature in Microsoft Edge, introduced last year, is set to be discontinued. The flag #edge-visual-rejuv-rounded-tabs has been updated to indicate this feature will be removed soon. In the stable version 127 of Edge, rounded tabs were not enabled by default, a situation that continues in version 128. Although rounded tabs allowed for easier identification of each tab, they have not gained significant user interest and have remained in the experimental phase. Microsoft plans to eliminate the experimental flag for rounded tabs and support for the full-rounded corners feature. Users can still enable the rounded design through specific settings. Future Microsoft Edge features will focus on artificial intelligence, including Copilot integration, performance improvements like a RAM limiter and battery-saving options, and a potential free 15GB VPN powered by Cloudflare in select regions.
