Microsoft is re-optimizing Windows memory performance for devices with 8GB or more RAM, moving away from its previous approach that treated 8GB as entry-level. The company is recognizing that hardware growth can no longer mask systemic inefficiencies, particularly with the rise of AI requiring substantial resources. Windows has accumulated background services and frameworks without a cohesive resource management strategy, leading to inefficiencies. Compatibility with legacy systems has complicated resource management, while commercial pressures have contributed to system bloat. The reliance on web technologies, particularly WebView2, has further increased memory consumption. Microsoft aims for Windows to achieve integration similar to macOS but faces challenges due to its diverse ecosystem. The demand for memory driven by AI has made system-level optimization a pressing issue, prompting Microsoft to adjust its guidance on memory requirements. The company must balance modernization with maintaining compatibility with older applications and drivers as it adapts to new computing demands.

Two Star Wars titles, Star Wars Zero Company and Galactic Racer, are set to launch within months of each other, marking the first time in 15 years that games from different developers will share a release year. The simultaneous lifting of embargoes for both games occurred just an hour apart, creating a clash that disadvantaged the team behind Galactic Racer. The two titles are developed by independent studios Fuse Games/Secret Mode and Bit Reactor/EA, respectively, with Lucasfilm Games overseeing the process. The marketing strategies for the games have differed, with Zero Company announced at last year's Celebration and Galactic Racer unveiled in December. Star Wars Zero Company is set to launch on August 27th, while Galactic Racer will follow on October 6th. Pre-orders are available for both titles.

Roost Social and Carrier Pidge are mobile applications launched in April 2025 that allow users to send messages via carrier pigeons in a digital format. Noah Iarrobino spontaneously created Carrier Pidge within days, aided by AI tools. Both apps are free to download but include in-app purchases to cover operational costs. As of mid-August 2025, Roost has over 700,000 users, and Carrier Pidge has 76,000 users, reflecting a trend among younger demographics for simpler communication methods. Roost is available on both Apple and Google Play Stores, while Carrier Pidge is available only on the Apple App Store.
