Microsoft released the Windows 11 Secure Boot update for all PCs, how to verify yours

Microsoft has expanded the rollout of the Secure Boot 2023 certificate update to more Windows 11 and Windows 10 devices with the June 2026 Patch Tuesday update (KB5094126). This update aims to ensure that most supported consumer PCs are classified as high confidence, meaning necessary certificates are either installed or will be applied automatically. Secure Boot is a firmware security feature that verifies the software attempting to load during the startup process, blocking unauthorized software. The certificates supporting Secure Boot, issued in 2011, are expiring in stages starting June 24, 2026, prompting Microsoft to deploy replacement certificates. Most home users do not need to take manual action as the updates will occur automatically via Windows Update. Users can check their Secure Boot certificate status in the Windows Security app. A yellow warning indicates pending compatibility data, while a red alert suggests a firmware incompatibility requiring a BIOS update. Multiple reboots during the update process are normal, and a new SecureBoot folder in Windows is for staging cryptographic files. Older PCs may experience longer update times, and some may not receive updates due to firmware issues. HP users should check for BIOS updates if encountering BitLocker recovery loops. IT administrators should monitor device classifications and manually initiate updates for devices not in the high confidence category. Devices with Secure Boot disabled cannot receive updates, leaving them vulnerable. The expiration of the Microsoft Corporation KEK CA 2011 certificate on June 24 does not immediately affect device functionality, but it limits Microsoft's ability to sign new bootkit blacklist updates.

Users can generate files in various formats instantly without needing to copy and paste content. Supported formats include Docs, Sheets, Slides, PDF, DOCX, XLSX, CSV, TXT, RTF, and Markdown. While users can export work to Google Slides and download it as a PPT file, direct export to Microsoft PowerPoint is currently unavailable. Microsoft Edge is killing off Collections — and your data is caught in the crossfire

The Collections tool in Microsoft Edge is being retired, and users will soon be unable to add new items to it. They are advised to export their saved content or transfer pages to Favorites before the feature is removed. Transferring to Favorites will result in the loss of additional content like images and notes, while exporting will preserve content in a CSV file but will not keep it within the browser. Collections has not gained significant traction among users, leading to its phased-out status. Additionally, the Edge Sidebar app list is also being retired, raising concerns about the future of the entire Sidebar feature as Microsoft aims to simplify Edge and promote Copilot.

How to speed up mass data inserts in PostgreSQL when using Spring

A common task in enterprise systems involves loading large volumes of data into PostgreSQL, which can be slow if using a loop in Java that calls the save() method for each record. Initial tests show that a basic insert operation takes over 10 minutes. Hibernate retains every object in the session-level cache until the transaction concludes, leading to high memory consumption. Enabling batching with the jdbc.batch_size setting improves performance by about 23%, but high memory usage persists. Application-side caching of IDs is faster than database-side caching, achieving a 30% performance gain. Using saveAll() results in minimal improvement as it still calls save() in a loop. Enabling reWriteBatchedInserts in the JDBC driver allows for multi-row inserts, reducing operation time to 4 minutes and 37 seconds. Clearing the session-level cache with EntityManager further optimizes memory usage, resulting in an 18-second time gain. Setting order_inserts=true enhances batching efficiency. With all optimizations, insertion time is reduced to 4 minutes and 19 seconds. A custom data insertion layer can be created to generate INSERT statements, with reflection being a straightforward but not optimal method. Prepared statements improve performance and security, with an efficient batch size of 5,000 records. PostgreSQL's COPY command facilitates faster bulk data transfers than multi-row inserts. Integrating COPY with Spring transactions enhances performance, and parallelizing the insertion process with a ThreadPoolExecutor significantly improves speed and memory usage.
