Roguelike action game Reverie in the Moonlight announced for PC

Publisher and developer room6 is set to launch their roguelike action game, Reverie in the Moonlight, on PC via Steam in 2025. Players will take on the role of Little Tete, who, with the help of plush companions, fights nocturnal monsters that invade dreams. The game features 40 different plushies, each with unique abilities, such as Ham Jr., Snoozy-G, and Striped Angel. Players can collect gold after battles to acquire new plushies and over 100 items to enhance Tete's defenses. Additionally, players can customize Tete with more than 20 costumes, each providing distinct advantages and disadvantages. Official trailers for the game are available in multiple languages.

Packet is an Android Quick Share App for Linux

Ancient CD ripping tool updated for the first time in 16 years, now supports Windows 11

CD2WAV32 has been updated to version 4.00jp after 16 years, now fully compatible with Windows 11 24H2, with no support for earlier versions or other operating systems. The developer, Moroboshi Ramu, previously updated the software on Windows 7. Microsoft’s Media Player App has also been updated, allowing music ripping and supporting MP3 format as of 2023, but lacks WAV support. The Media Player App enables users to select audio formats like AAC, MP3, and FLAC, with adjustable quality settings from 96Kbps to 320Kbps for lossy formats. Users can rip CDs by inserting them and selecting the ‘Rip CD’ option, with ripped files automatically added to the music library.

The First 5 Things To Do After Upgrading To Windows 11

Users are encouraged to transition from Windows 10 to Windows 11 as support for the former ends. The upgrade requires meeting minimum hardware requirements and can be initiated through Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update. The taskbar in Windows 11 is redesigned with a centered Start menu, but users can revert to a left-aligned layout by adjusting Taskbar settings. Customization options are limited, but third-party applications can offer more flexibility. The Start menu features only Pinned apps and Recommended files by default. Users can customize it by unpinning apps, adding new ones, grouping them into folders, and modifying layout and color through Settings. To free up space after upgrading, users can uninstall unnecessary applications via Settings > Apps and delete Windows 10 installation files by navigating to Settings > System > Storage > Temporary files. Disabling unnecessary startup services can enhance boot speed, which can be managed through Task Manager. Privacy settings should be reviewed post-upgrade, with options available under Settings > Privacy & security to adjust permissions and disable data sharing features.

The expansion features new weapon archetypes, including rocket sidearms and healing auto rifles, and introduces a Portal feature for selecting activities and customizing difficulty. Daily rotating guaranteed rewards for specific playlists aim to streamline the acquisition of tier 5 weapons and introduce set bonuses for armor. The expansion is set to launch on July 15.

Microsoft adds quick machine recovery to Windows 11 settings

Microsoft is piloting a new dedicated page within Windows Settings under System > Recovery to enhance machine recovery processes. This feature allows users to toggle recovery options, configure automatic solution searches, set check frequencies, and determine restart timings for fixes. It is currently available to Windows Insiders in the Beta Channel using Windows 11 24H2 and will soon be accessible to Dev Channel Insiders. Quick Machine Recovery (QMR), introduced as part of the Windows Resiliency Initiative in November, allows IT administrators to address boot issues remotely. When activated, QMR boots devices into the Windows Recovery Environment to initiate the Quick Machine Recovery Tool if Windows fails to start. Microsoft plans to enable QMR by default in Windows 11 Home editions, while enterprise customers can customize it in Windows 11 Pro and Enterprise.

Americans are missing out on some of the best updates Microsoft has made to Windows 11

Major tech companies, including Microsoft, are adapting their practices to comply with the Digital Markets Act (DMA) in the European Union (EU). Microsoft has allowed users in the EU to uninstall Microsoft Edge, Bing, and OneDrive on Windows 11 devices. Additionally, Microsoft will no longer pressure users to adopt the Bing app; Bing searches will now open in the user's preferred default browser. This change applies to links from the Widgets Board or Lock Screen in the European Economic Area (EEA). Microsoft has limited prompts to set Edge as the default browser to when users actively open Edge. This update has been effective since May 29th, with the release of Edge version 137.0.3296.52. Users who set a default browser will have it pinned to the Taskbar automatically unless they opt out, and other Microsoft applications will not prompt users to reinstall Edge if it is uninstalled. The process for setting a default browser will now cover a wider range of file and link types in the EEA, and Windows Search will receive enhancements, including support for third-party web search providers. Many features are being gradually rolled out, starting with Windows Insider builds.

Microsoft fights USB-C chaos on Windows 11 laptops with new label

Microsoft will enforce standardized USB-C specifications for Windows 11 laptops starting with the 24H2 update, requiring PC manufacturers to adhere to these guidelines. USB-C ports must support data transfer rates of 40 Gbps or 80 Gbps and be compatible with Thunderbolt 3, providing a minimum charging power of 15 watts (7.5 watts for tablets). Additionally, USB-C ports must support USB Power Delivery, PCIe tunneling, DisplayPort Alt Mode, and dual 4K@60Hz monitors. For USB3, ports must facilitate data transfer at rates of 5 Gbps, 10 Gbps, or 20 Gbps, with charging capabilities ranging from 4.5 to 15 watts. Manufacturers must test devices using Microsoft's Windows Hardware Lab Kit (HLK) to earn WHCP certification.
