This Mac malware is somehow using iCloud calendar invites to try and steal your data

Cybercriminals have developed an infostealer called MacSync, targeting Mac devices by using iCloud calendar events and cloud storage. This malware disguises itself as fake cryptocurrency wallets and pirated software. It begins with a loader that retrieves instructions from calendar entries and deploys malware to exfiltrate sensitive information, including credentials and cryptocurrency wallets. Recent versions have introduced an Objective-C backdoor that mimics Finder. Victims are often tricked into downloading these malicious applications, and effective antivirus solutions can prevent damage. Cybercriminals use tactics like SEO poisoning and phishing to direct victims to fraudulent websites or social media promoting pirated software. In one case, the loader was marketed as a cryptocurrency wallet, and victims encountered a misleading ClickFix error message that prompted them to execute a command in the Terminal.

Microsoft plans to deprecate Windows Deployment Services

Microsoft has announced that Windows Deployment Services (WDS) will be deprecated in the upcoming Windows Server release, marking a significant change for IT administrators who have used WDS for remote Windows installations. Active development of WDS will cease after the next Windows Server version, and the service will eventually be retired. This follows previous deprecations, including the removal of boot.wim support in 2021 and the disabling of hands-free deployment in January 2026 for certain updates. WDS will continue to operate on currently supported Windows Server versions, but standard desktop operating systems are no longer supported through its native setup engine since Windows 11. The deprecation includes the entire WDS ecosystem, but Microsoft Configuration Manager's deployment capabilities will remain unaffected. Users are encouraged to plan their migration away from WDS dependencies.

Cisco Talos Discloses Autonomous Windows Malware: Four AI Models Direct Each Attack

For persistence, it employs three overlapping mechanisms, including a Registry Run key, a scheduled task, and a WMI event subscription. To evade detection, CLOSEDQUORUM suppresses ETW telemetry and introduces delays before executing actions. It circumvents traditional command-and-control structures by calling legitimate API endpoints, making blocking these domains impractical. Talos introduced the CAIRN toolkit for detecting AI-integrated malware, which operates on metadata and employs rule-based detection. Unlike previous AI-assisted malware, CLOSEDQUORUM automates decision-making processes entirely, highlighting a significant evolution in malware capabilities. Security teams are advised to focus on behavioral detection strategies and utilize the YARA rule and CAIRN toolkit for identifying this threat.

Hackers Disguise CHOSEN BRICK Malware as AI Apps, Antivirus Software and MRI Results

Iranian state-affiliated cyber actors are targeting dissidents, activists, and journalists using fake AI applications, counterfeit antivirus tools, and fabricated MRI scan results, primarily through a spyware family known as CHOSEN BRICK, which is designed for Windows systems. This campaign has been active since at least 2025 and affects individuals globally, including in the UK, US, and Netherlands. The malware establishes persistence via the Windows Registry Run key and communicates through Telegram, utilizing unique Bot IDs for each victim. CHOSEN BRICK is capable of extensive data collection, including capturing screenshots, recording audio, and stealing email content. Personal information from victims has been found on pro-Iranian leak sites, increasing harassment risks. Security measures should include monitoring for suspicious Registry entries and unusual communications, while users are advised to avoid unsolicited software installations and keep their systems updated. The FBI refers to this malware family as HEAVYGRAM.
