Google bans popular apps as Android users told to check their phones

Android users are advised to examine their devices due to Google's decision to blacklist several applications infected with GhostAd malware, which drains battery life and mobile data. The malware has infiltrated at least 15 popular applications, including utility and emoji-editing tools, leading to significant resource drainage and disruption of normal device functionality. Many of these compromised apps were available on Google's Play Store, with one app, GenMoji Studio, reaching the number two spot in the 'Top Free Tools' category. Users have reported issues such as disappearing app icons, incessant pop-up ads, and decreased device performance. Google has removed the compromised apps from its Play Store, but users must still delete them from their devices. Millions of Android users have unknowingly become part of a hidden ad network due to this malware. Users are encouraged to review app feedback, verify app developers' credibility, and exercise caution with permissions to protect their devices from future threats.

Windows Update Preview brings Windows backup for organizations

Microsoft has released update preview versions for Windows 11 23H3 and Windows 10 22H2. This is the final update preview for Windows 10. The Windows 11 23H2 update (KB5064080) raises the build to version 22621.5840 and includes improvements to the "Copilot key," mobile provider profiles, and fixes for USB stick access issues. The Windows 10 update (KB5063842) raises the version to 19045.6282 and introduces a new licensing feature for blocking outgoing network traffic, along with mobile provider profile updates and removable disk access policy fixes. The Windows Backup for Organizations tool is now available, designed to simplify device management and troubleshooting, and facilitate migration from Windows 10 to Windows 11. Devices must be connected to Microsoft Entra and running at least Windows 11 22H2 to utilize this backup solution. Access to Intune service admin or global admin is required for activation. Microsoft has also reminded users about the expiration of Windows Secure Boot certificates in June 2026, advising timely updates to maintain secure booting capabilities.

These Amazon Fire TV apps are being blocked for promoting piracy

Google might soon make it easier to sync notifications across your Android devices
