Android app devs can now test their apps on Samsung, Xiaomi, and OPPO devices via streaming

Google has introduced the Android Device Streaming program, allowing developers to remotely connect to various Android devices in its data centers for efficient testing. Initially launched in 2014 for Google Pixel and select Samsung devices, the program will soon expand to include devices from brands like Xiaomi and Oppo, with expectations for flagship models and mid-range devices. This service aims to reduce testing costs by minimizing the need for physical devices, while ensuring security through isolated sessions and device resets. Currently, the service is free for approved developers until approximately February 2025, requiring an application for access.

Google offers developers a way to remotely test apps on Samsung phones

During the Google I/O 2024 event, Google introduced early access to its Android Device Streaming service, allowing developers to remotely test applications on Samsung, OPPO, and Xiaomi smartphones. The tool enables secure access to various Android devices for app testing before launch on the Play Store. Supported Samsung devices include the Galaxy S24 Ultra, Galaxy Tab S9, and Galaxy Tab S9+, with capabilities for testing on foldable phones in different orientations. After testing, Google performs a data wipe and factory reset on the devices. The process is integrated within Android Studio, and Google plans to add more physical devices for testing. Developers can sign up for the Early Access Program to participate.
