Samsung has introduced One UI 7, featuring a suite of Galaxy AI tools to enhance the writing experience. The update includes an on-device large language model that activates when users select text, displaying a pop-up editing menu with the Galaxy AI icon. The writing tools card offers six options: Spelling and grammar, Writing style, Summarize, Bullet points, and Composer. Each tool serves specific functions, such as checking for errors, exploring different writing tones, condensing content, transforming paragraphs into bullet points, and generating content based on descriptions. These features are available in the One UI 7 beta for Galaxy S24, S24+, and S24 Ultra, with plans for expansion to other Galaxy AI-compatible devices, while non-Galaxy AI devices may lack support due to computing limitations.

In 2017, Samsung launched DeX, enabling high-end Galaxy smartphone users to create desktop-like environments via a dock. By 2019, the need for a physical dock was removed, and in 2020, wireless DeX was introduced through a DeX app on Windows. With the upcoming One UI 7, support for the DeX app on Windows will end, and users will be directed to use Microsoft’s Phone Link app for mobile-PC connectivity. One UI 7 is rumored to enter beta testing in mid-December, with a broader rollout expected in early 2025. The UK Samsung DeX page states that support for DeX on Windows OS will cease with One UI 7, while the US page does not currently reflect this change. Although DeX will still be available, its access through Windows PCs will stop, with similar functionalities offered through Phone Link, which allows synchronization of notifications and text messages and operation of mobile apps on Windows 11.

Samsung will phase out support for its DeX for Windows application with the release of the One UI 7 software update in 2025. Users are encouraged to transition to the Phone Link feature as an alternative. DeX for Windows allowed users to connect smartphones to PCs, creating a Samsung DeX interface, while Phone Link enables users to project their smartphone interface onto a computer screen and run applications remotely. The transition is part of the collaboration between Samsung and Microsoft. The discontinuation of DeX for Windows may be due to low user adoption rates, and DeX will still be available for compatibility with TVs and monitors.

Samsung will discontinue support for the DeX for Windows application with the OneUI 7 update. Users are encouraged to transition to Microsoft Phone Link, which offers similar functionalities but lacks the full DeX desktop experience. The shift is noted on the Samsung DeX website, indicating a minimal user base for DeX on Windows. Users can still access DeX by connecting their smartphones to larger displays or using devices like the NextDock.
