In 2017, Samsung launched DeX, enabling high-end Galaxy smartphone users to create desktop-like environments via a dock. By 2019, the need for a physical dock was removed, and in 2020, wireless DeX was introduced through a DeX app on Windows. With the upcoming One UI 7, support for the DeX app on Windows will end, and users will be directed to use Microsoft’s Phone Link app for mobile-PC connectivity. One UI 7 is rumored to enter beta testing in mid-December, with a broader rollout expected in early 2025. The UK Samsung DeX page states that support for DeX on Windows OS will cease with One UI 7, while the US page does not currently reflect this change. Although DeX will still be available, its access through Windows PCs will stop, with similar functionalities offered through Phone Link, which allows synchronization of notifications and text messages and operation of mobile apps on Windows 11.

Samsung is preparing to launch its Android 15-based One UI 7 version alongside the Galaxy S25 series in January 2025. Reports indicate that support for the DeX PC linking feature may be phased out in this update, although this has not been officially confirmed. A recent update on Samsung's website suggests that DeX for PC on Windows will no longer be supported with One UI 7, rendering the DeX app for Windows non-functional. Instead, Samsung is directing users towards Microsoft's Link to Windows feature for similar connectivity. The beta version of One UI 7 is expected to be released soon, providing more clarity on these changes.

Samsung announced that the upcoming One UI 7 will not support the DeX app on Windows. The DeX app, which allowed users to transfer files and mirror their Android phone's screen on Windows PCs, is being phased out in favor of Microsoft Phone Link, which offers similar functionalities and supports a broader range of Android devices.
