Sony's gaming division is refocusing on console exclusivity and moving away from porting PlayStation 5 titles to PC, including the cancellation of a PC version of Ghost of Yōtei. This shift contrasts with previous plans to have half of its games available on PC and mobile by 2025. Despite successful PC releases of titles like The Last of Us, Horizon, and God of War, the sales performance of these ports has not met expectations. Sony's change in strategy suggests a desire to attract consumers to its console ecosystem through exclusives, similar to Nintendo's approach.

Sony is recalibrating its strategy regarding the release of single-player PlayStation 5 games on PC, with upcoming titles being exclusive to the PS5 platform. The sequel to Ghost of Tsushima, titled Ghost of Yotei, will not have a PC port, and the PS5 exclusive Saros will also remain a console-exclusive title. Multiplayer games like Marathon and Marvel Tokon will retain their multi-platform status, while titles such as Death Stranding 2 and Kena: Scars of Kosmora will still see PC releases. Sony's shift away from PC ports for single-player games may be influenced by the capabilities of Microsoft's next Xbox console and reflects a strategic move to strengthen its console ecosystem.

The software department in Redmond is preparing for a significant update named 27H2, set for 2027, aimed at addressing legacy issues from older Windows versions. The Windows Insider Program is currently testing the 28000 series, with a notable shift to the 29500 build series indicating a "platform lift" that includes enhancements to the kernel and hardware abstraction layer (HAL). Microsoft plans to phase out VBScript and WordPad, eliminate support for outdated printer driver architectures and certain legacy file systems, and adopt a "core OS" approach to optimize performance for AI technologies. This update is seen as a strategic retreat from the idea of "Windows 12," focusing on stability and a comprehensive overhaul of the underlying architecture while avoiding market fragmentation. However, there are concerns that substantial changes could render older hardware or specialized software obsolete.

The foundational security certificates supporting Windows Secure Boot, introduced in 2011, will expire in mid-2026, specifically in June and October. Microsoft and PC manufacturers are updating the Windows ecosystem to address this. Devices that do not receive updated certificates may face security limitations and compatibility issues with newer operating systems and hardware. The transition is described as a "generational refresh" of the trust infrastructure for Windows. Systems failing to update will still function but may enter a "degraded security state," unable to install new security mitigations or newer operating systems. Most users will receive updates automatically through Windows Update, while older systems may require manual intervention. Systems at risk include those running unsupported Windows versions, with Secure Boot disabled, or not enrolled in Extended Security Updates. Users should check their Secure Boot status using PowerShell commands to ensure they are using the new certificates. The update affects not only Windows PCs but also other devices utilizing UEFI Secure Boot.
