Announcing Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22635.5305 (Beta Channel)

Windows 11 Insider Preview Build 22635.5305 (KB5055636) has been released to the Beta Channel for users on Windows 11, version 23H2. This update is the last for the Beta Channel based on version 23H2, as all Insiders will soon transition to version 24H2, which is currently available as an optional upgrade in the Beta Channel. New features include a profanity filter setting for voice typing that allows users to manage profanity masking. Administrators can now allow users to unpin specific pinned apps on the taskbar using a new PinGeneration option. Fixes include resolving a crash issue in File Explorer when using touch, fixing a problem with the Windows Spotlight flyout, addressing a character insertion issue in password fields when using the touch keyboard, and correcting a display issue in the Settings app. A known issue involves some Insiders experiencing a bug with Xbox Controllers via Bluetooth, which can be resolved by uninstalling a specific driver in Device Manager. Updates for Windows Insiders in the Beta Channel will continue based on version 23H2 through an enablement package, and features may be gradually rolled out using Controlled Feature Rollout technology. Features may evolve or be removed based on feedback.

Microsoft mystery folder fix might need a fix of its own

Microsoft's recent patch for CVE-2025-21204 inadvertently reintroduced the inetpub folder at c:inetpub as part of its mitigation strategy, raising concerns among system administrators. Security researcher Kevin Beaumont discovered that this folder created a new vulnerability when he used the mklink command with the /j parameter to redirect the folder to a system executable (notepad.exe). This allowed standard users to prevent Windows updates without administrative rights, as the command could be executed on default-configured systems. Beaumont has notified Microsoft of this vulnerability, but the company has not yet responded.

I tried installing Windows on an ReFS drive, and I actually don’t hate it

Microsoft is deprecating a ‘revolutionary’ virtualization-based security feature for older versions of Windows 11

Users are expected to transition to newer releases as support for Windows 11 23H2 ends in November. Enterprise customers relying on VBS enclaves may face disruptions if the feature is completely removed.

Windows 11 24H2 Update Bug Triggers BSOD Error

Microsoft has acknowledged a significant bug in its Windows 11 24H2 updates, causing Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) crashes with the error code “SECUREKERNELERROR” (0x18B). This issue has escalated since the April 2025 Patch Tuesday update, affecting thousands of users globally. March, April Windows 11 updates cause BSOD pain for users

Microsoft has reported that two recent updates for Windows 11 24H2, specifically the April cumulative update KB5055523 and the March preview update KB5053656, are causing blue screen crashes with the error code 0x18B (SECUREKERNELERROR) after installation and reboot. There is currently no permanent solution, but Microsoft is working on a workaround using a Known Issue Rollback (KIR) that will automatically apply to personal or unmanaged devices through Windows Update. Android addressing ‘excessive’ battery drain with new app wake locks metric
