The search for the ideal survival game began with the early beta of Minecraft in 2009, leading to the exploration of various titles over nearly two decades. A recent discovery, Icarus, released in December 2021 by Dean Hall, has garnered 29,000 positive reviews on Steam and maintains a vibrant player base. Icarus allows players to experience a sense of safety at night while encouraging exploration during the day, set on a planet with terraforming issues. The game features a realistic approach to sustenance, manageable food and water consumption, and introduces an oxygen meter that adds complexity to gameplay. It offers three modes: Open World, Missions, and Outposts, with Missions providing structured quests. Icarus is set to launch on PS5 and Xbox on March 26.

Generative AI is increasingly integrated into video game development, with applications ranging from art assets to gameplay mechanics. A poll of approximately 1,000 respondents revealed that over 40% prefer traditional game development with no AI involvement. More than half of participants are open to generative AI to varying degrees: 20% oppose its inclusion in final products but accept its use as a productivity tool, while 21% approve of some AI involvement if disclosed. Additionally, 14% would engage with heavily AI-utilized games if enjoyable. Concerns about AI-generated code have been raised by developers, particularly regarding its quality. Despite skepticism, there is agreement on the benefits of AI-accelerated rendering techniques for performance improvements.

A trend has emerged where many PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 exclusive titles, including The Last of Us, Marvel's Spider-Man, Horizon, and God of War, have been released on PC. Speculation suggests that only PlayStation live service games may be released on PC in the future, while traditional single-player experiences are likely to remain console exclusives. Journalist Jason Schreier indicated that SIE is backing away from putting exclusive console titles on PC. He mentioned that Marvel's Wolverine, set to release on September 15, 2026, is currently planned as a PlayStation 5 exclusive with no PC version announced. Schreier expressed doubt that it would ever come to PC and noted that the impact of a retreat from PC releases might not be significant, as previous PC releases were not very successful. Recent announcements included several titles headed to PC, but these were not developed by internal PlayStation Studios, suggesting that first-party titles will influence the future of console exclusivity.

Microsoft has introduced a new command line interface for the Microsoft Store, accessible through PowerShell by typing "store." Users must have all current Windows 11 updates installed for functionality. The interface features ASCII art and a list of sub-commands, allowing users to search, install, and update software with minimal keystrokes. Users can install applications without needing to remember exact names, and commands like "store install firefox" yield accurate results. Limitations include the inability to install applications not available in the Microsoft Store. Users can also search for apps, gain insights into specific applications, and browse categories. The command "store updates" allows users to manage application updates efficiently.

Massiv is an Android banking Trojan that disguises itself as legitimate applications, primarily targeting users in southern Europe. It is distributed through side-loading and is capable of remote control over infected devices, enabling Device Takeover attacks that can lead to unauthorized banking transactions. Massiv often masquerades as IPTV applications to attract users seeking online television services. The malware employs overlay functionality to create deceptive screens, keylogging to capture sensitive information, and SMS/Push message interception. It can monitor applications on infected devices and present fake overlays to prompt users for sensitive data. Notably, it has targeted the Portuguese government application gov.pt and connects with Chave Móvel Digital, a digital authentication system, to access victims' banking accounts. Once it captures sensitive data, Massiv allows operators remote access to the device using Android’s AccessibilityService, facilitating real-time observation and manipulation of the user interface. It communicates over a WebSocket channel and supports screen streaming and UI-tree modes for enhanced control. Massiv's distribution includes malware droppers that initially do not contain malicious code but open a WebView to an IPTV website while the actual malware operates in the background. This tactic has increased in recent months, particularly in Spain, Portugal, France, and Turkey. Indicators of compromise include specific SHA-256 hashes and package names associated with the malware. The bot commands allow operators to perform various actions on the infected device, such as clicking coordinates, installing APKs, and showing overlays.

Microsoft discontinued Windows Phone in 2017, a decision regretted by CEO Satya Nadella. Nex Computer is now taking pre-orders for the NexPhone, which aims to run Android, Linux, and Windows 11. The device features a custom Mobile UI designed for touch interactions, reminiscent of Windows Phone. When connected to an external display, it offers full Windows 11 capabilities but lacks cellular connectivity in Windows mode. The NexPhone is not intended to replace primary smartphones but serves as a secondary option with mid-range performance, powered by Qualcomm's DragonWing QCM6490 chip, 12GB of RAM, and 512GB of storage. It operates on Windows for Arm, which may present compatibility issues. While in Windows mode, cellular calling and SMS functions are unavailable, requiring users to switch to Android for those features. The device has a rugged design with military-grade build quality, a 120 Hz 6.58-inch display, a 64 MP main camera, and a 5,000 mAh battery, priced at 9.
