Users of the Google Play Store have reported that when automatic updates are disabled, updates for certain system-level applications do not appear in the Pending downloads list. As of January 22, 2026, affected Google applications include Android System Intelligence, Google Partner Setup, and Settings Services, which can still be updated by visiting their app listings directly. On September 4, 2024, the issue also began affecting YouTube, where users receive update notifications but do not see them in the Pending downloads screen. Google Partner Setup, crucial for devices using Google Mobile Services, is experiencing the same visibility issue and cannot be disabled or deleted. Devices running Android 7 or earlier will not receive updates for this app. Additionally, on July 1, users noted a missing update for Google’s Data Restore Tool, which can only be updated via a direct link from the Play Store. The visibility issue has affected various system applications, leading to confusion over available updates. This situation may indicate a strategic shift by Google regarding the management of updates for system-level applications.

The Google Play Store is experiencing an issue where updates for system-level applications are not appearing in the Pending downloads section, despite users receiving notifications for available updates. Users can still find the "Update" option when visiting the app's listing directly in the Play Store. This problem affects several common Google applications, including pre-installed apps like YouTube and the Google Partner Setup application, which is essential for devices using Google Mobile Services and cannot be disabled or deleted. Devices running Android 7 or earlier will not receive updates for this app. Additionally, the Data Restore Tool requires direct access via a link on the Play Store for updates, as it does not show in the Installed list. The issue suggests a potential change in how Google manages updates for system applications, similar to the automatic updates for Google Play Services. Users who have disabled auto-updates must manually check for updates through the app listings.

In August, Microsoft introduced a new Downloads section and updated the Library section in the Microsoft Store. They are currently testing a revamped product page experience, which is available only to Windows Insiders but will soon be accessible to non-Insiders. The new product page aims to create a more engaging interface, allowing users to watch video trailers for apps and games directly while browsing. If a trailer is unavailable, a hero image will be displayed instead. Users can adjust autoplay settings for trailers. The product page is compatible with both dark and light modes, and speed improvements are also anticipated for the Microsoft Store.

Microsoft is migrating the Microsoft Store to .NET 9 and Native AOT (Ahead-of-Time compilation) to enhance performance and user experience. The transition involves a phased update, starting with improvements to the underlying technology, followed by a refresh of the user interface to incorporate WinUI 3 elements. The Store is expected to launch more quickly due to direct code compilation, resulting in faster loading times. Recently, the Store introduced new “Downloads” and “Library” sections to improve management features, allowing users to manage updates and access all owned apps and games more easily. The updated version is available to all users, with the .NET 9-based Store set to roll out to testers soon.

Microsoft is testing a redesigned Microsoft Store for Windows 11, featuring a new Downloads tab that lists all installed apps and includes a Get Updates button for simultaneous updates. Users can also update individual apps via a three-dot menu that offers options to share, review, rate, pin, and access release notes. The Library tab now displays all installed and purchased apps not currently on the system, showing installation dates and allowing users to filter and sort apps. This division between Downloads and Library enhances user experience and efficiency in managing applications.
