Tim Sweeney, CEO of Epic Games, highlighted the need for improved game development efficiency and connectivity during his remarks at Unreal Fest. He noted that many major game releases are failing to meet expectations despite increased engagement among younger audiences and Fortnite's resurgence. Epic is developing Unreal Engine 6 to enhance efficiency and interoperability, incorporating generative AI for game creation that can integrate with Fortnite and other Unreal products. The Unreal Engine is free for developers, with a 5% royalty after the first million in revenue, and the Epic Games Store waives fees for the first million earned, contrasting with higher fees on platforms like Steam. Epic and Disney released a Star Wars toolkit for Unreal Editor for Fortnite, and there are concerns about how traditional gaming experiences will adapt to a more interconnected ecosystem. Despite rising development costs, Epic is committed to supporting diverse projects while shifting towards a model emphasizing social connectivity and brand partnerships.

Epic Games unveiled developments for Unreal Engine 6 at the State of Unreal event in Chicago, highlighting its evolution from Unreal Engine 5. The new engine will incorporate features from Fortnite and UEFN (Unreal Editor for Fortnite), which allows users to create game levels easily. Unreal Engine 6 will adopt open standards for tools, code, and APIs to simplify development across industries. The anticipated release is set for 2027, with early access expected by the end of that year. Verse, a new scripting language, will be central to the gameplay programming model, while C++ will remain foundational. The Scene Graph will replace the existing gameplay framework, and artificial intelligence will play a larger role, with the UE5.8 release introducing the MCP server plugin for deploying large language models.

Windows enthusiasts aim to enhance system performance while managing heat and power consumption, especially in mobile PCs. Under-volting techniques are commonly used to optimize performance and reduce power consumption, with tools like AMD's Ryzen Master and Intel's XTU available for this purpose. Users can also adjust settings in the BIOS, such as Curve Optimizer for Ryzen processors. Processor Power Management operates through the Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI), which includes P-states for voltage-frequency scaling and C-states for CPU sleep states. Windows provides two default P-States: "Minimum Processor State" and "Maximum Processor State." A Registry modification can unlock additional options under a "Processor performance boost mode" dropdown, allowing for five distinct profiles: 1. Disabled: Disables processor boosting, reducing power consumption and heat but limiting performance. 2. Enabled: Allows boost functionality under normal conditions, balancing performance with power and thermal constraints. 3. Aggressive: Prioritizes performance, allowing higher boost states but increasing power draw and thermal output. 4. Efficient Enabled: Focuses on energy efficiency while allowing boosting. 5. Efficient Aggressive: Balances performance responsiveness with efficiency. To enable the Processor performance boost mode, users must access the Registry Editor, navigate to a specific path, and modify the value of Attributes from 1 to 2. This will reveal the new "Processor performance boost mode" dropdown with the five P-State options. The settings are summarized as follows: - Disabled: P-state behavior is disabled. - Enabled: P-state behavior is enabled with Efficient Enabled CPPC. - Aggressive: P-state behavior is enabled with Aggressive CPPC. - Efficient Enabled: Efficient P-state behavior with Efficient Enabled CPPC. - Efficient Aggressive: Efficient P-state behavior with Aggressive CPPC. - Aggressive At Guaranteed: Requests performance above the guaranteed level. - Efficient Aggressive At Guaranteed: Consistently requests the highest performance above the guaranteed level. Users should be cautious when modifying these settings, as issues may arise that require reverting to original settings.

Microsoft released a cumulative update for Windows 10, designated as KB5094127, during the latest Patch Tuesday. Some users are experiencing issues where they are prompted to enter their BitLocker recovery key after installing the update. This problem is linked to systems with an "unrecommended" BitLocker Group Policy configuration and has occurred in previous updates. Specific conditions that can lead to this issue include having BitLocker enabled on the operating system drive, a certain Group Policy setting configured, the System Information tool reporting a specific Secure Boot State, the presence of a particular certificate in the Secure Boot Signature Database, and not using the 2023-signed Windows Boot Manager. Affected users may face difficulties accessing their BitLocker recovery key, potentially leading to lockouts. Microsoft suggests that personal devices are less likely to be affected, with the issue primarily impacting enterprise setups. The company is working on a resolution and advises IT administrators to consider removing the Group Policy configuration before installing the update. Update KB5094127 is available only to Windows 10 users in the Extended Security Updates program for versions 21H2 and 22H2, addressing various bugs and security vulnerabilities.
