Lung cancer surgeon Johnny Ferguson from James Cook Hospital has partnered with the creators of Minecraft and the Ruth Strauss Foundation to create an educational game called Detect & Diagnose. The game aims to educate children about cancer and reduce stigma by allowing players to navigate hospital departments and interact with patients. It is available for free to all schools in the UK. The initiative addresses misconceptions children may have about cancer, such as the belief that it is contagious, and encourages open discussions about the disease within families.
