For the past roughly five years, I've driven an electric vehicle. While I still have my EV, my family recently needed a second vehicle, and given the skyrocketing cost of electric cars right now, we went the old-school gas car route this time. While my Kia K4 Hatchback is pretty great on gas, I've needed to fill it up a bit more than I expected. This has me thinking about the cost of gas again for the first time in several years. When it comes to finding the cheapest gas in my area, Fuelio has been really useful. The app not only helps me find nearby gas stations but also shows their prices. Usually, the cost difference between gas stations is about $0.10, but in today's world, even saving a few dollars is worth it. Fuelio also lets you log your mileage so you can see how much mileage you're getting from your vehicle. I haven't tried this feature yet, but I plan to soon.

If you're headed into a major city's downtown core, this app is worth trying
If you've ever headed into the busy downtown core of a major city when there's an event happening, you'll know that finding parking often feels impossible. In most cases, you end up parking in the first lot you see and likely overpay considerably. This is where SpotHero comes in. The app helps you find available parking spots in garages and surface lots, and even lets you purchase a spot in advance. That way, all you need to do is pull into the lot, and you're good to go. If you're a big planner like me, it's the type of feature you'll probably come to rely on very quickly. I've only used SpotHero a few times over the past few weeks, but it's really giving me welcome peace of mind that I've grown to appreciate. It's worth noting that the Android Auto version of SpotHero doesn't let you book a parking spot directly; you'll need to use the Android app for that.

Weather & Radar takes tracking conditions far further than other weather apps
A live weather radar is more useful than I expected
I've obviously known that Android Auto weather apps are a thing for years, but Weather & Radar only recently came to my attention. Unlike other weather apps, which generally show the temperature and whether it's raining or snowing, Weather & Radar gives you access to a live weather radar on your car's infotainment screen. This means that if you're on the road and see ominous clouds looming ahead, you can take a look at Weather & Radar to see if that storm is actually going to hit you. If you're on a road trip, this can come in handy in terms of helping you decide whether it makes sense to pull off at an upcoming rest stop for some food or keep barreling ahead to beat the storm. Since I haven't been on a road trip recently, I actually haven't needed to use Weather & Radar yet. Still, I've added it to my Android Auto app rotation because I know I'll be glad I have it installed at some point, especially as weather becomes increasingly more erratic where I live.

In a way, PlugShare is the EV version of Fuelio. If I'm driving my EV and need to stop for a quick charge on a longer drive, I always turn to PlugShare. The crowdsourced app shows nearby charging stations, how fast they charge, what network they're on, and the types of chargers they offer, including whether they support J1772, CCS1, NACS/J3400, or CHAdeMO.
I've really come to appreciate PlugShare's user reviews of chargers. In my area, there aren't many chargers, and those that are available are often either broken or charge very slowly. For example, a 50kW charger might only charge my Ioniq 5 at about 25kW consistently, depending on the outside temperature. This allows me to avoid wasting time and actually find the best-working charger. On top of that, I can see how much a charge costs and which network it's on. EV charging is rarely expensive, but it's still nice to know what to expect in terms of price, since it can vary.
