Cybersecurity specialists have identified a long-running malware campaign that disguises itself as installers for pirated games, utilizing a malicious component called the RenEngine Loader. This loader operates stealthily, embedding itself within the system while allowing the game to run without disruption, thus evading detection. The campaign has been active since at least April 2025 and primarily targets popular titles from Electronic Arts and Ubisoft, such as Far Cry, FIFA, Need for Speed, and Assassin’s Creed. The malicious code appears as a harmless launcher based on Ren’Py, leading users to believe the installation is normal. Once installed, the loader can facilitate further exploits without immediate data exfiltration. Telemetry has recorded over 400,000 inquiries related to this distribution chain, with an average detection rate of around 5,000 incidents per day, and Russia ranks fourth in these observations.

Tim Sweeney, CEO of Epic Games, views generative AI as a significant opportunity for enhancing in-game dialogue, proposing it could create "infinite, context-sensitive, personality-reflecting dialog" shaped by human voice actors. His comments were in response to criticism from freelancer Rick Lane regarding the use of AI-generated voices in the game Arc Raiders. Sweeney believes that AI can enhance human productivity and that competition among game developers fosters better games rather than reducing job opportunities. He argues that the future of AI offers greater opportunities for voice actors compared to traditional roles, envisioning a gaming landscape with dynamic, context-sensitive interactions. Critics, however, question the feasibility of his vision and express concerns about the potential threat to voice actors' livelihoods. Industry responses to generative AI vary, with some leaders embracing it while others remain cautious. Sweeney acknowledges the validity of concerns about the impact of progress on affected individuals.

On October 29, AMD released the Adrenalin software update version 25.10.2 for Radeon graphics, which includes support for games like Battlefield 6 and Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2, both using DirectX 12. The update supports AMD Ryzen AI 5 330's integrated Radeon 820M graphics, expands Vulkan support, and includes various bug fixes. It is compatible with Windows 10 and requires Windows 11 version 21H2 or later. The update limits new game support to AMD's Radeon RX 7000 and RX 9000 GPUs, dropping support for older RDNA 1 and RDNA 2 graphics cards. The update also introduces "Work Graphs" support for Radeon RX 9000 GPUs, enhancing GPU autonomy. Fixed issues include crashes in several games and stuttering with VR headsets, while known issues persist with Battlefield 6 and other titles. The driver is available for download from the AMD website.

Claude Cummings Jr., president of the Communications Workers of America (CWA) union, has requested a thorough investigation by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States (CFIUS) regarding the proposed acquisition of Electronic Arts (EA) by a consortium of investors primarily funded by Saudi Arabia. He expressed concerns about job security for thousands in the gaming industry and the potential impact on market dynamics, urging regulators to evaluate how the acquisition could affect EA's market power and wage-setting authority. The acquisition would transition EA to private ownership under investors including the Saudi Public Investment Fund. The CWA previously supported the acquisition of Activision Blizzard by Microsoft after negotiating a labor neutrality agreement.

Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive, expressed skepticism about artificial intelligence's ability to replicate the creative essence of Rockstar Games in game development, particularly regarding Grand Theft Auto 6. He emphasized that human creativity is irreplaceable and that generative AI, while efficient, cannot produce an equivalent to the Grand Theft Auto marketing plan. Zelnick highlighted challenges posed by copyright laws concerning AI-generated content, stating that such creations are not protectable. He believes reliance on AI could lead to derivative outcomes rather than innovation. While acknowledging AI's predictive modeling capabilities, he cautioned against its use in creative fields, asserting that it would be ineffective in those areas. The release date for GTA 6 is uncertain, but more information about the game is expected soon.
