Microsoft is launching Project Zenith, which optimizes Windows 11 for developers by preinstalling essential applications and configuring settings tailored for coding. Key features include File Explorer displaying file extensions, hidden files, and the complete path in the title bar. Developer-class devices will run models with over 30 billion parameters locally and will come with tools like Windows Terminal and Visual Studio Code pinned to the Taskbar, along with preinstalled applications such as GitHub Copilot and PowerToys. To qualify as a developer-class device, a system must have a minimum of 64 GB of unified memory and at least 250 GB/s memory bandwidth. Initially, these enhancements will be available on AMD's Ryzen AI Halo devices, with plans for broader availability. All Windows 11 devices will benefit from overall improvements, including reduced memory usage and enhanced functionality in Search and File Explorer.

WMIC, a utility for IT administrators introduced in Windows XP in 2001, will be removed from Windows 11 after August 2026. It has been deprecated since 2016 and was previously removed from Windows 10 in 2021. Although it remained available as a Feature on Demand, it was disabled by default in new installations. Recent Preview builds for Windows 11 confirmed that WMIC will not be included in version 26H2. PowerShell is suggested as a prominent replacement for WMIC tasks.

Owning a Roku TV or streaming box allows for seamless integration with existing tech setups, enhancing the viewing experience. Users can mirror their Android phone's screen to the Roku device, provided both support the Miracast protocol. Most Roku devices support screen mirroring, but some Android devices, like Google Pixels, do not support Miracast natively. Users can still cast individual apps such as YouTube or Netflix using the DIAL protocol. To mirror the screen, users must navigate to the settings menu on the Roku and select the screen mirroring mode. Samsung Galaxy users can easily mirror their screens by using the Smart View feature. While mirroring, a Smart View pill allows users to adjust settings and aspect ratios. If audio issues arise, users should check the volume on both devices. Samsung Galaxy smartphone users can utilize the DeX feature for a desktop-like experience when connected to a Roku. To activate DeX wirelessly, users can access quick settings and select the Wireless DeX toggle. Some lag may occur during wireless use, which can be mitigated by adjusting the TV's picture mode to gaming.

Microsoft is retiring several outdated user interface elements from Windows 11, some dating back to Windows 95. The latest preview builds show a new File Explorer properties dialog box, part of Microsoft's initiative to replace antiquated dialog boxes with modern versions using WinUI 3. This modernization aims to enhance user experience but poses challenges due to the legacy nature of Windows 11, which may affect performance and third-party applications. Additionally, Microsoft is updating the Windows Run dialog to include a visual refresh and improved functionality, accessible via the Windows key + R shortcut. Users of Windows 11 Home may miss features available in Windows 11 Pro, with a special upgrade offer available.
