Microsoft resolved an issue affecting the installation of Windows updates released since May 2025, which primarily impacted users using the Windows Update Standalone Installer (WUSA) from a network share, especially in enterprise environments. The problem was significant for devices running Windows 11 24H2/25H2 and Windows Server 2025, but did not occur when handling a single .msu file or when files were stored locally. In August 2025, Microsoft acknowledged that updates installed using WUSA might fail with error ERRORBADPATHNAME when multiple .msu files were involved. A Known Issue Rollback Group Policy was implemented in September 2025 to mitigate the impact on home and non-managed business devices. The issue was ultimately resolved with cumulative updates released in June 2026 for Windows 11 (KB5079391) and Windows Server 2025 (KB5094125). Microsoft provided a workaround for users experiencing difficulties with prior updates by suggesting they save .msu files locally for installation. Users were also advised to wait at least 15 minutes after installing an .msu file via WUSA before checking the Update History page. Additionally, Microsoft had previously addressed another issue in April 2025 that affected enterprise customers installing security updates via WSUS, which recurred in the August 2025 updates. Microsoft warned customers about potential issues with installing the latest monthly updates on devices upgraded to Windows 11 24H2 or 25H2.

Microsoft is working on a more efficient, streamlined, and customizable right-click context menu for Windows File Explorer and Desktop interactions, responding to user feedback about the cluttered nature of existing menus. The initiative aims to improve user experience by allowing customization, which marks a shift from Microsoft's previous rigid approach. Developers will need to adapt to new APIs and guidelines for context menu interactions, and there may be restrictions on the number of items that can be added. Performance improvements are also planned to address slow-loading context menus. The timeline for implementation is uncertain, but updates may first appear through Windows Insider testing channels. The changes are part of Microsoft's broader strategy to modernize Windows 11 and improve basic functionalities like file management and interface responsiveness. Customizable context menus could provide enterprise IT departments with new management options, and the initiative reflects Microsoft's awareness of competition from other operating systems.

Microsoft has issued a service alert indicating that customers in restricted network environments may encounter Windows Update failures, specifically error code 0x80010002, after installing the January 2026 optional non-security preview updates. Affected devices might download the February monthly Windows security update but could struggle with updates released in March and beyond due to changes in download timeout requirements. Microsoft is working on a resolution, and IT administrators can use Known Issue Rollback (KIR) as a workaround by configuring the appropriate Group Policy for their Windows version. A device restart is required to apply these settings. Historical issues include a bug fixed in April 2025 affecting WSUS installations and another issue resolved in August 2025 related to the Windows 11 24H2 cumulative update. Additionally, a KIR fix was provided for a known issue causing the May 2026 Windows 11 security update to fail with error code 0x800f0922.

Cloudflare has deepened its partnership with PlanetScale to enhance the developer experience by providing Cloudflare Workers with access to Postgres and MySQL databases. Users will be able to create PlanetScale databases directly from the Cloudflare dashboard and API, with billing handled through their Cloudflare accounts. Cloudflare credits can be applied towards PlanetScale databases. The integration allows developers to link their PlanetScale accounts and create Postgres databases from the Cloudflare dashboard. Starting next month, new PlanetScale databases will be billed directly to Cloudflare accounts. The integration uses Hyperdrive for database connectivity, managing connection pools and query caching. PlanetScale offers performance and reliability, allowing developers to choose between Postgres and Vitess MySQL. Cloudflare users can deploy PlanetScale databases directly from Cloudflare, with features like query insights and usage breakdowns included. A single node on PlanetScale Postgres starts at a specified monthly rate. Developers can configure Workers to minimize latency by placing them near the primary database, with future plans to automate this process. Currently, billing for existing PlanetScale databases is processed through PlanetScale, but new databases will be billed through Cloudflare starting next month. Further enhancements and API integration are planned, with community feedback encouraged.

The digital landscape is transforming due to the professionalization of cybercrime, which is now a significant part of organized crime, second only to drug trafficking. Malware includes various types such as viruses, browser hijackers, password stealers, Trojans, botnet malware, and ransomware. Traditional antivirus solutions rely on signature-based detection, heuristic analysis, and behavior monitoring, but these methods can lead to false positives and negatives. The evolution of cybersecurity has seen the rise of "Ransomware-as-a-Service" (RaaS) and the use of polymorphic malware that changes its signature, making traditional defenses ineffective. Hackers are also using AI and machine learning to evade behavioral monitoring. New defense strategies include Endpoint Detection and Response (EDR) and Extended Detection and Response (XDR), which focus on monitoring for breaches rather than preventing them. Leading vendors in this space include CrowdStrike, SentinelOne, Microsoft, and Palo Alto Networks. The zero trust security framework treats all access attempts as potentially hostile and emphasizes the integration of various security technologies. Emerging startups like FinalAV Security are developing zero trust solutions for consumers and small businesses, focusing on prevention rather than detection.
